Bowling Association Doubles
Tournament held Feb 13-14

from Burleson placed high at
the annual area basketball
tournament sponsored b> the
Chamber of Commerce and
the Hurst Baptist Church.
The Feb 26-27 tournament
saw the Division I team from
Hughes Middle School take
first place and the Division II
squad from Burleson High
School third spot in boys
competition The girls quin

first place in Division II
The three teams, com-
prised of 16 boys and girls
and four coaches, were to
have gone to the state bas-
ketball tournament last
weekend for the first time
ever in Abilene Sixty nine
teams from all over Texas
were scheduled to partici-
pate
Davis, received awards lor
placing in the tournament
Southall and Adcock
teamed up to bowl IBM to
place fourth in the junior
doubles event Then Adcock
teamed up with Davis to
bowl a 1192 series to place
fifth in the same event
Davis also took boy's high
series handicap for juniors
with a total of 674 pins.

The Burleson High girls
track team is hoping to re-
peat ... as district champion
this season and, with soph-
omore Shari Parks, high
point individual at the dis-
trict meet in 1981. back this
spring, the Elkettes have an
excellent chance.
“We will definitely be a
competitor in the district this
year,’’ Coach Carla McAvoy
said. McAvoy led the Elk-
ettes to the district crown
last year in her first year as
coach
McAvoy will have back
five of the nine persons who
placed in the district meet
last season and, with the
addition of some talented
underclassmen, will have
more depth and diversity
this year than last
Last April, the Elkettes
won the final event, the 1,600
meter relay, to edge Arling-
ton for the district title. Bur-
leson had 136 point, Arling-
ton 128. and Lamar 100.
Parks ended the meet with
37 points to rank as the
individual with the most

800 meter relay and the run-

still undecided. Day, Parks,
and Cotner will run the 880
while Ruthie Hindman, Lori
Guarino, and Day are tabbed
for the mile relay.
Boots, Malone, and Vicki
Moorehead will be running in
the 100 meter dash and Rod-
gers has the nod in the 100
meter hurdles. Day, the dis-
trict champ, will return in
the 200 meter dash and Mi-
chelle Day will also compete
in this event.

Junior Kim Durnan won girls B singles competition at the
Duncanville Invitational Tennis Tournament Feb. 27. She
won four matches to cop the first-place trophy. The Burleson
High netters took third place in team standings at the tourna-
ment.
