Three Juveniles Arrested
CROWLEY-A two-day crime spree
ended for three juveniles Monday
afternoon when police curbed them in a
stolen car that ended a high-speed
chase through residential streets on
the city’s west side.
Crowley Police Officer Del Duck-
worth arrested the trio at the corner of
Wilson and Highway 1187 after their
car spun out of control.
Duckworth began the pursuit when a
neighbor called police and told them of
suspicious activity at a house on Skelly
Street, about a half-mile from the place
where the youths were arested.
Crowley Police Chief Hank Eckhardt
said the youths apparently saw Duck-
worth approaching and fled in a car
they had stolen earlier in the day from
Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet in Fort Worth.
Eckhardt said investigation indicat-
ed the youths-two of them 14 and one
15 - were involved in the burglary of a
house in Weatherford and one in Fort
Worth Sunday while operating in still
another stolen car.
Eckhardt said a house on Quail
Creek had a screen cut but was
apparently not entered. Police found no
evidence of entry or damage to the
house on Skelly.
The youths were taken to the Tarrant
County detention center.
Victim Leaves Scene
\
Johnson County Sheriffs Deputies
are searching for a man who suffered
what appeared to be serious cuts but
left before officers arrived to investi
gate.
Johnson County Deputy Sheriff Bill
Bailey said a truck driver reported on a
CB radio that a man was injured at the
rest stop on Interstate 35 south of
Burleson.
Bailey said the trucker told deputies
the man left the scene in a gold
Cadillac. He said the man told him
someone attempted to rob him and
slashed him with a box knife - a razor
blade encased in a medal holder used to
open boxes.
The truck driver described the
victim as a man in his 20s. He said the
man suffered an eight-inch cut across
his neck.
jjailey said considerable blood was
found at the rest stop but a check of
hospitals as far away as Ltallas had
produced no victim.
Bailey said most hospitals contact
local police anytime a person is injured
in what might be considered a violent
manner.
Joshua Schools Evacuated
JOSHUA -- School convened later
than usual Wednesday morning be-
cause of a telephone threat received by
the police department.
Police Chief Bill Clay said a person
with what sounded like an adult male’s
voice called at 8:14 a.m. Wednesday
morning and said "you had better clear
all Joshua Schools by 9 a.m.”
Clay said each of the three schools
were notified by telephone and the
students quickly evacuated.
“We're treating this as a bomb
scare," Clay said after the buildings
were cleared and searched by police,
fire and school personnel.
Clay said a Johnson County sheriffs
deputy also assisted in the search. He
said the students were out of school
about 30 to 35 minutes while each
school building was searched.

New tax law changes
mean good news for older
Americans.
One of the concerns of
everyone is whether or not
he is required to file a
return. Single people 65 and
over do nov have to file a tax
return unless their gross
income for 1979, excluding
Social Security and Railroad
Retirement payments and
public assistance, was $4,300
or more. That figure goes up
to $6,400 for a couple with
one spouse 65 and over and
$7,400 for a couple with both
spouses 65 and over.
Of course, even if you are
not required to file, if you
had tax withheld, you should
file to get any refund you
may have coming.
In addition to the higher
filing requirement, the “Tax
Credit for the Elderly” pro
vides another tax benefit for
some older taxpayers with
some taxable income and a
tax liability. There are limit-
reading). Vote 6-0. Mike
Arnold absent.
Approved Ordinance C-
2*39, establishing the Burle-
son Public Library Board.
(Final reading). Vote 6-0.
Mikn Arnold absent.
Approved to return un-
used funds to the Burleson
Youth Association on hand
after the completion of the
installation of the sprinkler
system in Bartlett Park.
Vote 6-0. Mike Arnold ab
sent,
Approved as emergency
item to support the Tarrant
County $20,350,000 Bond
Issue on January 26, 1980.
(Resolution No. 295). Vote
6-0. Mike Arnold absent.
Authorized the City Man
ager to hire the individual
discussed in Executive Ses-
sion for the position of
Director of Parks and Re-
creation ai a salary of $1,350
per month. Vote 6-0. Mike
Arnold absent.
