Firemen fight fires
at vacant bam and
hay field Saturday
BY ROMEO MUNGUIA
A band of young vandals was
believed to have been respons-
ible tor setting lire to a vacant
bam and some large rolls oi hay
just northeast ol Burleson on
Hardgrove Lane. Saturday night
about 10 pm
The bla/c which was in the
Fort Worth Fire Department's
jurisdiction, completely des-
troyed the bam, and the wind
caused the fire to spread to a
nearby hay field. The bam ow-
ner’s name was not included in
the fire report tiled at the FWFD
(arson division)
WE Dunkin, captain of the
FWFD said that the cause ot the
fire was ruled as suspicious He
also mentioned that it could have
been caused by a grass fire that
spread to the ham 'We have no
leads, said Dunkin It is poss-
ible that some kids could have
done it but we just don t
know "
TWo large rolls ol has were
believed to have been set on tire
separately It took longer to
douse them because the water
had to be shuttled to the site
from fire hydrants located about
500 to 600 feet away next to the
1-35 service road
In order to contain the fire and
keep it from spreading, the fire
officials did not move the bales
ol hay until they had enough
water handy to drench them.
Richard Devoe, Burleson fire
marshal, mentioned that the fire
department had been out close
to the site earlier that evening to
tend to a trash fire
Devoe also stated that 13 grass
fires were set on Saturday alone.
The train accidently set about
three fires on Saturday, but the
rest were caused by a band of
children,'' said Devoe. If anyone
has any information about the
cause of these fires, call Devoe at
295-1113
Four trucks Irom the Burleson
Fire Department made it to the
scene along with two Rendon
trucks and four trucks from the
Fort Worth Fire Department
