Local Bank Moves Into

Tlu1 Jackson County Slav* Hank
opened for business Monday in its
new quarters, or radier the exten-
sively remodeled and newly equipped
old quarters.
J Miring the remodeling job, the
bank has occupied the' adjoining
room to the east, formerly the K. B.
Department Store location.
The remodeling work on this two-
story brick building was done by
Uherda Eros, of Ganado.
Hotli the interior and exterior of
this spacious building underwent ex-
tensive remodeling. The outside was
plastered and stuccoed and painted,
and presents a very modern appear-
ance and has elicited a great deal
of favorable comment, not only from
local citizens, but by strangers visit-
ing Edna. We notice that during
this work there were preserved these
•signs: "The Hank of Edna” and
“1896.” The building was erected
in 1st Mi by the late Mr. J. W. Allen.
The contractor was Hailey Mills of
Victoria. It housed Mr. Allen’s
private bank, and later the Allen
National Hank.
The interior of this old building
now has the appearance of a modern
city bank. The building is. air condi-
tioned and the lighting system is one
of the most modern in this entire
section. Tluye are five teller cages, owned by Nagei.

Tommy Sherwood, his wife, and
Willie Nickels are in jail in Edna,
and theft charges will lie tiled against

ing stolen property in the possession
of the Sherwoods.
Monday night the freight ware-
house of Henry Cleveland (the form-
er l’henix Ivairy building*) ”out on
east Main street, was broken into
and some tires stolen. Tuesday
morning while working in the vicini-
ty of the stock pens, east of town,
members ol* a railroad crew discov-
ered some tires hidden on the right-
of way. The sheriffs department
was notilhsI and Deputies Hen (Tuhh
and Wayne Miller watched the hid-
ing place of the tires until midnight
when it is alleged Sherwood and his
wife drove up to get the tires. They
were placed tinder arrest and impli-
cated Xickles in the theft. Nickels was
picked up ami all three placed in jail.
Eater Sherwood’s house was search-
ed and it is said that a quantity of
merchandise that had been missing
from the freight line for some time, j
