"See You at the Pole" a decided success
More that 60,000 Texas young
people and up to two million across
the nation joined in the largest simul-
taneous youth prayer meeting in his-
tory during "See You at the Pole,"
Sept. 11 at 7 a.m., said Chuck Flow-
ers,youth associate in theTexas Bap-
tist Evangelism Division.
"See You at the Pole," which
was launched by Texas Baptists last
year, drew more than 45,000 high
school and junior high school stu-
dents to pray around the flagpoles at
about 1,000 Texas schools at 7 a.m.
Christian students from differ-
ent churches and denominations saw
they weren't alone in making a stand
for Christ on their campuses, said
Flowers.
Afterward, students at many
schools began meeting weekly for
prayer and Bible study.
This year, the simultaneous
prayer meeting to call upon God's
intervention in the lives of each per-
son in the school has spreaa across
the nation to thousands of campuses.
"The school campus is one of the
great mission fields of our nation,"*
said Flowers. "Meeting on the cam-
pus to pray is a symbol of our confi-
dence thatj^iod will work in the lives
of studentsif Christians boldly agree
with His desire to have all come to
know Him.
"Students are encouraged to pray
for their teachers and other leaders
and for God to intervene in student
problems such as drug and alcohol
abuse, sexual immorality, depression,
suicidal tendencies and satanic cult
influences.”
To avoiApotential conflicts, it is
essential^|M "See You at the Pole”
prayer-meeting be student-led, said
Flowers.
"The purpose is not to make a
militant stand against organizations
that oppose any Christian influence
on campus. We want these prayer
gatherings to focus on the real pur-
pose, and that is prayer.
