Life Scenes
Loretta McGee of Dublin and Dr. John Hodges of Temple announce
the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
DeeAndra Hodges, to Barry Lambert, son of Terry and Sherri
Lambert of Granbury. The bride-elect is a candidate for graduation
from Tarieton State University with a degree in animal science. The
prospective bridegroom is working on his master’s degree in biology
at TSU. The wedding and reception will be May 24 at First United
Methodist Church in Dublin.
Thursday Club hears
review of historic
sites in Texas
Gayk Crouch presented a pro-
gram on the historic sites of Texas
to the Woman’s1 Thursday Club
April 17 at the Dublin Public
Library with Betty Robbins serving
as hostess.
Mrs. Crouch presented these
highlights:
Washington-on-the-Brazos, the
capital of the Republic of Texas
from 1842 to 1846, was the site of
the signing of the Declaration of
Independence and the drafting of
the constitution for the Republic of
Texas.
San Jacinto Battlefield was
where General Sam Houston led
his troops in a surprise attack on
Santa Anna on April 21,1836. The
battle, which lasted 18 minutes,
assured the independence of Texas
from Mexico.
• I-angtry was named for actress
Lillie Langry by Judge Roy Bean,
famed for what became known as
“frontier justice”. A historic site in
Langtry is the combination saloon-
billiard hall where the judge held
court in the 1800s.
Fort Davis is known for the
historic U.S. Army post from 1854
to 1891. It served as base for a
company of former slaves who
were given the name Buffalo Sol-
diers by the Indians.
The Woman’s Thursday Club
will meet May 1 at Trifles with
Juanita Duncan as hostess.
Reed honored at TSU
Rebecca Reed, a Tarieton Stale
University student from Dublin,
was one of 43 students inducted
during the spring semester into the
University's Texas Alpha Kappa
Chapter of Alpha Chi, the national
college honor scholarship society.
Reed is an English major at
Tarieton.

She weighed 8 lb. 9 oz. and was
20 inches long.

Starnes, Havens
named good losers
Virginia Starnes and Lela Mae
Haven were named good loners at
recent meetings of the Dublin
chapter of TOPS (Take Off Pounds
Sensibly).
Charms were presented to Bar-
bara Bean for perfect attendance,
j Dorothy Mclnroe for coming back
from vacation without a weight
gain and Gypsy Seigars for being
last year’s contest chairman.
Members evaluated the diary
| worksheets which record what was
eaten, when and where.
Robert and Sheila Helton of Azle and Rick and Janet Mathis of TOPS meets at First Baptist
Dublin announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their Church each Friday for weigh-in at
children, Melinda Louise Helton and James Derick Mathis. The 10 a.m. and a program afterwards,
bride-elect is a sophomore at Tarieton State University where she is
majoring in elementary education. She is employed by the
Stephenville Medical and Surgical Clinic. Mathis is a sophomore
earth science and hydrology major at Tarieton where he is also
employed. The wedding is set for 8 p.m. May 23 in Highland
Missionary Baptist Church. __

Construction crews are
putting the final touches on the
first phase of Harris Methodist
Erath County’s brand new OB
unit, opening in April. The
expanded unit will feature four
self-contained labor, delivery,
recovery and postpartum rooms
(LDRP), which allow women to
experience childbirth in greater
comfort and privacy. Phase Two
of construction - renovation of
the current OB and the addition
of five patient rooms with private
baths - is expected to be
completed in July. As you can
see, we 're laboring hard to make
your labor a little easier.
