Dear Editor.
We woald like to thank you and
the citizen* of this community for
the gracious support of our trip to
perform at the Dallas Cowboy
football game.
The Dahdii-Lioas represented
Dublin with pride. They not only
made us proud of their perfor-
mance, but also of their attitude
and behavior at all times. These
young ladies conducted themselves
with grace, character, and honesty.
It is a pleasure to be associated
with such an outstanding group of
youag women.
Thank you, Dandi-Lions, for
your hard work, and thank you,
Dublin, for allowing them this
oncc-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Sincerely,
Dandi-Lion ftrill Team Directors

Thirteen can of a 79-car Santa
Fe freight train derailed at the
Blackjack and Elm crossing in the
early morning hours of Dec. 23.
Extensive damage was reported to
the depot and 10 of the cars. The
wreck was witnessed by Dublin
fireman Leslie Billingsley who
went immediately to the fire sta-
tion, notified other firefighters and
the police, then returned to the
scene with a fire truck.
The James F. Lincoln Arc Weld-
ing Foundation announced the
1972 Are Welding awards to be
presented to 256 school shop stu-
dents from 48 states. The third
place regional award of $100 went
to Joe Mac Riley for his tool chest.
Joe was a student at Dublin High
School and his instructor was Wel-
don Whiteliead.
The new Humble Oil and Refin-
ing Co. service station held its
grand opening. The new stucco
building, belonging to W.H. Burks,
was "completely modem in every
way, offering all conveniences for
customers, including a shower for
truckers."
The Majestic Tliealre marquee
was advertising The Ghost and
Mrs. Muir starring Gene Tierney
and Rex Harrison.
Mrs. Noel Littlcpagc was hostess
to a meeting of llie Women's
Thursday Club, which was in the
nature of a Christmas party. The
program consisted of carols per-
formed by the whole group, and
special Christinas songs performed
by a quartet consisting of Mrs.
D.R. Franks, Mrs. Henry Turney,
Mrs. Joe Little, Jr. and Mrs. Fran-

HIGHLAND
By Atha Dedmon

A recent good deed in our com-
munity just made my Christmas. A
lady (senior citizen) arrived at
church with her Christinas spirit
smashed. She '-had accidently
locked two set of keys in her car
(one in the ignition and the other
in her purse on the seat) as she
busily juggled food and other
Christmas “stuff’.
She made it to church but it was
with a long face. She told friends
of her plight and immediately
Rodney Jacks took over, assuring
her that she should enjoy herself
and not worry about it.
After the program, Rodney and
his friend (sorry, I didn't get his
name) had the car open in no time.
Can you imagine her relief? (I can
- I was there.) She offered to pay
them, but they just smiled and told
her to have a happy Christmas.
They looked like angels to me.
I believe our young people are
returning to the way people were
in my Grandpa Keith’s day wh$n
everybody helped everybody aid
there was mote love and caring.' I
think every new generation of
young people is getting better !-
we just don't bear about it.
Highland Baptist was crammed
Sunday night. I’ve never seen so
many little ones. Sana was there
and he took time to bold every
little one. He was also attentive to
the teenagers who wanted to tejl
him what they wanted for Christ-
mas too. He paid special attention
to one “kid” who will be 98 on her
next birthday. Jessie House,
dressed in red and white, looked
real pretty as she went up to s«e
Santa. She and Santa made quite a
pair and there were lots of flash
bulbs going off.
The whole Highland Community
bunch wants to wish all of you a
very happy holiday and 365 mode
of them the whole year.

Baker and Lela Fitzgerald with us.
Kristin Wade did a song in sign
language that was very special.
Wanda Davidson, Camila Black,
Merle Grozier and I delivered gifts
to Golden Age Manor and Dublin
Nursing Center Thursday. We get
such a blessing from the ones at
the homes.
James E. and Deniece Hughes,
Jessica and Jeremy liad lunch and
visited with Frank and Rita Baibee
Saturday.
Rodney and Camila Black had
Christmas with their children Sun-
day.
Janiece Peltijohu celebrated
Cliristmas Saturday with 27 com-
ing to her home.
Lois Allen spent tlie weekend
with Coda Vaughn. Coda's children
all came for Cliristmas starting
Tuesday, others coming Wednes-
day.
Leldon Barbee, Catnila Black
and I attended tlie wedding of
Stacy DeAnnond and Randy Burch
at Harvey Baptist Church in
Stephenvile Saturday. We wish
them much happiness in tlie years
to come.
Ann Cole went to Fort Worth
Sunday and her grandson, Jr. Jack-
son, came home with her. They
went back to Fort Worth Wednes-
day to spend tlie liolidays.
Wanda Davidson and I visited
with Gladys Caldwell Thursday
morning. Bro. Neil and Lela Wade
visited with her, also. She isn't
doing well at all. Keep praying for
her and Lovie Humphries.
I want to tliank all my many
friends and neighbors for all they
have done for me. I didn't get
Christmas cards sent out like I
wanted to. I love all of you and
wish all a very Merry Cliristmas
and a Happy New Year!

LIBRARY NEWS By {Frances Turney
The library was fortunate to
capitalize on the talents of volun-
teers Gwen Irwin and Lanelle
Hamilton, who put up the Clirist-
nias tree in the foyer and decorated
other areas of the library in cel-
ebration of the season.
Librarian Carolyn Holden and
Lillian Whitehead arranged a dis-
play table of Christmas books for
the benefit of readers in search of
holiday material to read or share.
Some of the books arc delightful.
If you missed them before Cluist-
mas, not to worry. It’s quite proper
to read Christmas books until
twelfth night, and the library will
be open on the 26lh.
While you're still in a holiday
mood, you might consider reading
The Lost Books of the Bible.
While not chosen for inclusion in
the Bible, these books nevertheless
present insight into the life and
limes of Jesus and, according to
one of tlie editors, "provide us with
a closer look at Jesus and tlie world
he lived ‘ in." Included arc some
writings from tlie Dead Sea Scrolls,
some Gnostic writings; Peter's Gos-
pel, said by the editor to be "once
held as highly as those of Matthew

Ode to Christmas
By O.W. JONES
A. request for an ode to Cliristmas for Louise I said I’d do.
I’m afraid if I don’t write one, she’ll hit me with her shoe.
It’s to talk about Cliristmas and Santa Claus and toys,
I thought when a cap gun was in my sock, Christmas was just for boys.
My family of seven didn’t have much in my childhood days at home,
But we all had a Merry Cliristmas, until the last of us was gone.
We all were taught that Cliristmas is a very special day.
That Christ was bom to Mary and Joseph in a manger bed of hay.
The wise men followed the twinkle of tlie stars that were over Him,
It’s what went on when Clirist was bom in the City of Bethlehem.
Since that time, it’s once a year, December tlie twenty-fifth,
A lot to it’s been added, some think it’s just a myth.
If you really know the meaning, you’ll
be filled with merry and joy,
Cliristmas was really started with Joseph
and Mary’s little boy.
and Mark, and more highly than
those of Luke and John." The
Gospel of Thomas was rejected
because it bespoke Gnosticism.
Some of (lie books in this volume
are from wliat we used to call The
Apocrypha, which is defined as
"...not canonical."
If you'd like to read something
just for the fun of it and acciden-
tally get informed about an inci-
dent in Texas history, you can't go
wrong reading The Immortal 32 by
Rita Kerr. This is tlie story of tlie
32 men from Gonzales who an-
swered tlie plea from tlie Alamo.
Both Mexican and American
Texan heroes are cited in this book
written for children, but not re-
stricted to tlie young. Only 49
pages, this story is ideal for family
oral leading; then you'll be all
primed and ready for March 2 and
April 21.
Merry Cliristmas and Happy
