night.
He flayed special interests and
big corporations for standing' in
tihe way of progress in. state gov-

could -want no better endorse-
ment of my candidacy than the
statement recently made by Brig
Gen. Jacob Wolters that he is

snapper'" Allred said.
He exhibited a newspaper
clipping in which General Wolr
ters announced he would resign
as commander of the Texas Nat-
ional Guard if Allred is elected.
Wolters was quoted as saying:
lT have served under many gov-
ernors I disliked but I cannot
countenance saluting that young
whippersnapper Jimmie Allred.
I will resign instead."
"Do you know who General
Wolters is?" Alfred demanded.
"He's the chief lobbyist for the
Texas Oil Company. That ought
to explain it. You may remem-
ber that General Wolters made a
study of the sales tax and then
announced it woud be 'a fine
thing for the people of Texas.'
Oh yes he meant it would be a
fine thing for the company he
lobbies for and for all of the
rest of the big corporations"
Allred said.
"I promise you this. . When I
am governor General Wolters is
either going to keep his promise
and resign or I am going to call
