PREPARATION BEING MADE
FOR CHRISTMAS
PROGRAM.
German services will be held
at St. John's Lutheran church
next Sunday at 10 :30 a. m. Sun-
day School will meet at 9:15.
A quarterly congregational
business meeting of the congre-
gation will be held at 2 :30 p. m.
Sunday. All voting members
are expected to be present. "All
those who are in any way able
are asked to make an additional
contribution toward our church
debt in this meeting" the pastor
stated.
All children taking part in the
Christmas program are asked to
be present Sunday afternoon at
2 :30 for practice.
The Sunday school teachers of
St. John's will join the teachers
of St. Paul's Lutheran church in
Taylor in a Teachers Training
Course to be given at the Taylor
Lutheran church every evening
from Sunday December 9 to
Friday December 14. Prof. E.
J. Braulick of the Lutheran Col-
lege in Seguin will be the lectur-
er. TheLadies Aid of St. John's
will meet next Wednesday after-
noon at 2 o'clock for its month-
ly meeting.

Drug Store Early
Wednesday Morning
Safe burglars broke into the
Daniel's drug store early Wed-
nesday morning and took over
$100.00 in cash from the safe
and approximately three hun-
dred dollars in merchandise from
the store including fountain
pens candies cigars cigarettes
and various other items.
Entrance to the store wa?
gained by prizing open the door
on the west side of the ibuilding.
The knob on the safe was brok-
en off. The burglary was dis-
covered by night watchman Les
McCarver on his 5 o'clock round
when he noticed several fountain
pens on the sidewalk near the
west entrance to the store and
found the door unlocked.
Officers were notified and
they are working on several
clues but no arrests have been
made.
Mr. and Mrs. Seales
Hosts of "42" Party
At their home Saturday night
Mr. and Mrs. Seales entertained
a number of their friends with a
pretty Thanksgiving party. Four
tables were set up for the
games. Tally and score cards
carried out the Thanksgiving
idea. At the close of 12 games
prize awards went to Mr. and
Mrs. Dimit Whitlow for high
score won by husband and wife.
The hostess assisted by Mrs.
Clarence Seales served a delic-
ious turkey course to the follow-
ing guests: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh
Morrison Mr. and Mrs. Emmet

City Council Sponsors
Xmas Yard Contest
Christmas lights in the busi-
ness district of Bartlett were or-
dered installed at a special meet-
ing of the City Council Wednes-
day night. As an -inducement
for citizens to beautify their
yards nnd homes during the
Christmas season the Council
also offered two prizes for the
best outside electrically decorat
ed home and yard from Decem
ber 15th and 26th. The Wo-
man's Wednesday Club has
agreed to select three out-of-
town judges for this contest.
Officials present at the meet-
ing were: Mayor R. W. Miller
and E. E. Lindeman A. Gers-
bach George Hempel and R. N.
Sexton aldermen.

Have Thanksgiving
Party Tuesday
Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Stokes en-
tertained last Tuesday night at
their home with a Thanksgiving
party. A color scheme of yellow
and green was carried out in the
decorations and refreshments.
"42" was played during the
evening. High score went to
Mrs. Grover Adams and Jean
Jones.
A salad and sweet course was
served to Mr. and Mrs. Dimmitt
Whitlow Mr. and Mrs. Grover
Adams Mr. and Mrs. Jean Jones

FIRST NATIONAL BANK
BUILDING.
J. A. Waeker of Bartlett has
accepted a position as manager
and supervisor of the Southern
District of the Home Benefit
Association of Marlin. JMr
Waeker s district will comprise
tbi counties of Bell Williamson
Milam and Lee. He will main-
tain offices in the First National
Bank Building with J. V. Mor-
ris. "The Home Benefit Associa-
tion of Marlin has successfully
operated for 18 years and dur
ing that time has paid out over
three million dollars to benefi-
ciaries" Mr. Waeker stated.
This association has a record
of having paid every claim for
the full maximum amount of the
policy" he pointed out.
Mr. Waeker purchased the
Dimmit Whitlow home on Clark
Street this week and Mr. and
Mrs. Waeker and family will
move into their new home on the
first of the year.
SERVICES AT CENTRAL
CHRISTIAN CHURCH
F. W. O'Malley of Temple will
preach at 11 o'clock Sunday
morning at the Central Christian
church. Bible school will be held
at 10 o'clock. You are invited
to attend these services.

( Topography was the topic for
discussion at a meeting of the
Woman's Wednesday Club held
at the home of Mrs. J. E. Condra
Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. D. T. Boyd gave an illus-
trated talk on the Geography of
Texas. Mrs. Walter (Fox gave a
discussion of Our State Bird
Flower and Tree. Fourteen mem-
bers answered roll call with the
derivation of names of the
counties' of Texas.
The club will meet with Mrs
B. Y. Daniel December 19.

ent-Teacher Association Tuesday

o'clock at the grammar school.
This meeting has been called for
the second Tuesday in December
so as not to interfere with the
preparations for the holidays. -The
Junior Glee Club direct-
ed by Miss Dorothy Stokes will
appear in several numbers Bil-
ly Horton will play a trombone
solo Miss Bandy of Temple will
give Christmas readings. The
Mother Singers will also appear
on the program singing a num-
ber of Christmas Carols.
All parents and friends of the
association are requested to at
attend this meeting.
Bible Study Course
At Church of Christ
Attracting Attention
Increased interest is being
shown in the Men's Bible Study
Course being conducted at the
Church of Christ" C. C. Hocker
minister of the church stated.
"This is to be an eight weeks
course and ve would like to en-
roll as many men in this class as
possible. Whether you are a
member of the Church' of Christ
or not we cordially invite you to
come together with us in this
study Class meets each Mon-
day evening promptly at 7:15
for one hour" he said.

for Sunday are morning services

services "Does Thinking We Are

Funeral Held For
Wendell Nixon At
Davilla November 28
Funeral services were held at
the Davilla Methodist church for
Wendell Nixon with Rev. Burke
officiating Wednesday after-
noon November 28.
He was born near Bartlett
Jan. 13 1914. For the past few
months he was in service with
the CCC camp in Belton. After
becoming ill he was transferred
to the Army hospital at Fort
Sam Houston San Antonio
where he died November 26.
Surviving are his mother and
father Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Nix-
on; three brothers Albert Clif
ton and Jtsenson Nixon ; three sis
ters Misses Cleta Nixon of
Temple and Emma Ella and "Ru
