Pauline’s News
Pauline Rivers
598-2057
* Billy AI drove down to Em-
ory Sunday eve and took the
news. I saw Christy’s car at the
Armstrongs’ so I guess she and
the babies are back from their
trip to see her hubby and the
lidos' dad.
I: Billy still isn’t feeling up to
ipar, still going for his treat-
intents. My ankle is sure giving
line fits. I am to go back for
‘some sort ol
Ian. 14. I do di
going
i ankle
un tc
f surgery Tuesday,
lo dread that for I
really don’t know just what it
:did to my ankle. The doctor I
; saw said it would take surgery,
I that some bones were broken
.in there. I sure don’t like that.
1 Neither Billy nor I will be able
:to tend to things, and he can’t
: drive to and from his doctor
: trips. I do hope I won’t have to
: stay in the hospital because Bil-
I ly isn’t able to be here by him-
self. We took the news to Em-
ory and he drove down there
and back. I busted up my left
foot when I fell up at Green-
ville, so Louise drives us to
Greenville. 1 don’t know how
many times I will have to go
with my broken foot. Maybe
' we can go on the same days.
The weather out looks like it
might be serious, l hope it
doesn’t turn too cold because
Billy and I have to go to Green-
ville to see the doctor Tuesday.
This Monday it looks like it
might do just about anything. It
is that time of ye. r to be win-
ter. It has been rather nice.
Grab that electric blanket.
This is our coldest night, and
to me, this Monday has been
rather cold also.
Pauline sure has that bad foot
on her. She hasn't been able to
use it. She is using a walker
and crutches. It sure is dealing
me plenty of misery. I walk
with a walker and it really does
not want to work. I go back to
the doctor in two weeks. I sure
don't believe it is doing any
good at all. I am not able to
drive for Billy anymore at this
time. Sc far he has managed to
do so. Oh! what a mess we can
get into.
I need to stay off my foot but
no way can I do so with Billy
sick too. Well, the rain has
started again. Billy went to
Emory to get some things but I
sure got uneasy about him be-
fore he got back. He brought
some good hamburgers and we
enjoyed our lunch. I love
things like that once in a while,
not often though. I really pre-
fer nice cooked meals with
some sort of meat and vegeta-
bles, two or three kinds, and a
DID TOU KNOW?
We have skinless
fried chicken

lly did go to the grocery
Friday mom. He hasn’t
good Coke or a big glass of tea
and that good old-fashioned
com bread. Pauline can fix
them all. Now, I don’t go for
all of these fancy foods or
dishes that they have out. I am
an old-fashioned cook and a
nice housekeeper when I am
well, but I sure haven’t been or
seen that word in ages. We do
our best to keep warm and
clean, and we really try very
hard tc stay alive. That is our
worst job.
Bill
store
been able to do that very much
he.e of late, and Pauline is on a
walker and she sure can’t get
around like a 16-year-old any-
more. I don’t know just how
Billy is going to get to his doc-
tor for his treatments. It will be
a long while before I can drive
him, and maybe not ever. It is
a bad break and I am still on
my walker and crutches, and
no telling for how long. My
foot is swollen up as t 3 as two
feet. What is hand now on us is
getting the cows fed. I can’t
and won’t even try to do so
anymore.
Margie has helped us out
two days, and was she some
help. She sure is, but she didn’t
come this Friday and I am not
able to do things. I will be in a
cast two weeks and maybe
longer. Maybe someday I will
be Pauline again, but for now I
really don’t know just who I
am.
Billy & I have both lost a lot
of weight. I am glad and hope
we don’t get it back. I broke
my foot when 1 look Billy to
see the new doctor he is sup-
posed to go to now, also I fell
down the steps at the hospital
and fell flat of my back. It
broke my foot.
It is still trying to rain for us,
but I hope we don’t have any of
those really, really cold spells.
I am crippled and Billy is sick,
and we can’t get out in that sort
of weather. We do need gro-
ceries once in a while. Margie
came and helped us out two
days, and we nave to manage
by ourselves.
A new girl drove Billy to
Greenville Thursday for his
treatment. I don’t know if she
is to drive.him or get someone
else. I will go back in two
weeks and the cast will be
taken off if everything turns
out okay.
I sure don’t like cold wea-
ther. I will take the hot any
time and let the cold go on by,
but that doesn’t happen. It is
hot and it is cold; it is stormy
and it is fair; it is hot and it is
cold. We can’t have things like
we want it to be. I guess it is a
good thing we can’t do so. So
just be content with what we
have and do the best we can. I
sure dread those storms we do
have some of the times. We
have them all year around
now. They used to be just in
the spring, clouds and storms,

but now we have those bad
northers in Nov., Dec., Jan.
and Feb. 1 do dread them, but
those storms are the worst to
me. Neither Billy nor 1 can get
in and out of the cellar.
Dwight will be here to take
Billy to the doctor, nifty isn’t
feeling good at all. He has a
terrible cough and he isn’t well
anyway. Those treatments are
not good on anyone, and thr
sure are hard on him, and now
Pauline has broken her foot.
Dwight came and took Billy
for his treatment, and Pauline
stayed at home. My foot is
really dealing me misery. 1
don’t rest good at night and it
hurts all day. I am here by my-
self. We wanted Kitt to come
and stay but she didn’t do so.
Billy and I were by ourselves
Friday and 1 am by myself Sat-
urday. I am just hoping I don’t
fall anymore. I am too old to be
breaking bones.
Margie came by to see me
Saturday and helped me. She is
very good help.. Dwight ate
supper with us, then Dwight
and Marg e both left for home.
It will be night when Dwight
gets home. They are still plan-
ning on moving closer to the
country from town. It is a big-
ger house and it has some land.
He likes to do things like have
a little garden, and she likes a
pretty yard. They can have a
garden out there and chickens,
but I don't know if they plan on
chickens now or not. We
haven’t gotten to talk to them
much lately. I think Dwight is
working at night and that will
sure interfere with his yard and
garden work. She still works
some but not at night. So far
they all still have their jobs,
and I hope they can keep them.
We hear that people are being
laid off of work, and it is look-
ing bad to us all.
We had a cool night Satur-
day night, down to 20° here.
Billy went for his treatment
Saturday but sure isn’t feeling
good at all. He has had one of
those bronchial spells. He
coughs a lot and gets hoarse
during the night. He is like me;
he needs to get better.
I am not able to take my
news tc Emory and none of the
boys came down Sunday, so I
may not get it down there. I
sure can’t do so.
Have a good week and
hurt. It is terri-
can’t walk or do
“K," '
will be
Friday; she didn’t say why.
We didn’t expect her today
since she goes to church, and I
sure don’t want her to miss
church to wait on me. Every-
one, including Pauline and Bil-
ly, need to be in church. Billy
and I haven’t been able to go to
church. We go to the doctors
and sometimes to the grocery
store.
See you next week through
the Leader. Louise can’t stay
with me as her hubby Forest is
sick. They thought he had the
flu but I don’t think so. He
coughs also, but Billy has
coughed for the last three or
four weeks, and I mean a bad
cough. I need one of the boys
to take him to a medical doctor
and see about him. Have a nice
week and visit the sick and be a
good neighbor. See you next
week through the Leader if.
Jesus sees fit.
