The City Council of the City
of Emory met for the regular
monthly meeting March 10th
at 7 p.m in City Hall.
Council members present
were Mayor Weldon McDow
ell. Counctlmen Bud Bryant.
Phillip Kerr. Rubye McKeown
and Jaxie King
Others present were Judy
Ransom. City Sec.: Linda Her
riage. Asst City Sec ; Charles
Dickerson. Public Works Di-
rector: John Olson. City In
spector: Ray Middleton. City
employee: Ed Emig. Fire
Chief, Richard Jennings and
C h' McKinney
The meeting was called to
order by Mayor McDowell.
The following motions car-
ried unanimously unless stated
otherwise:
Approved minutes of past
meeting of the city council by
waiver ol reading.
Approved payment of cur-
rent bills presented to city
council
Ed Emig was present to dis-
cuss fire hydrants in the city
limits. He presented the
following letter to the council:
“After working the current
known fire hydrants, we have
made a survey of hydrants we
feel need some consideration
by the council and possibly
some future action. We realize
some may be an expense item,
but should be a goal in our
water expansion program: 1
Hydrant by sheriff's office
needs to face outward. 2.
Hydrant by Broken H Gallery
needs to be raised. 3. Need to
relocate hydrant by Potts Feed
Store, unable to put on a
hydrant wrench because of the
guard being constantly pushed
over on the plug. 4. We still
need hydrant replaced by the
sale barn 5 Need hydrant re-
installed between Ivan Alex-
ander's and Hood's lumber
barm b Need hydrant located
Tty Terry s Furniture Ware-
house on Hwy 69 Other than
the hydrant on corner by Potts
Feed, there is not a hydrant
close to Rains True Value.
Terry's Furniture and Piggly
W iggly This may be an im-
possible request with the width
of state right-of-way but should
be a concern for the future."
The council voted to take
care of as many of these items
as possible immediately.
John Olson was present to
discuss progress on trans-
mission line. He reported that
the new 12-inch line was being
used to transport water from
the lake to Emory and meter
connections were being made
onto the new line, with 7 hav-
ing been made so far. Some
clean-up work had been done,
but the contractor had re-
quested that he be allowed to
subcontract the clean up work
The council voted to deny the
request for subcontracting the
clean-up work at this time due
to the large amount ot clean-up
to be done which would re
quire heavy machinery to
accomplish
Ihe council discussed in
stalling a ramp by the ASCS
otTTss toi the haiiduapped
I his had (ven requested sev
er»l seats ago and had nevei
been done I he mas or pointed
out that there are thiee aicas an
Texas Street that need ramps
with handrails The council
voted to proceed with this,
with Phillip Kerr making some
drawings of the proposed
ramps and handrails to bs
presented to the council at the
next meeting in April
The council then opened
sealed bids for a new '/2-ton
pickup truck Low bidder was

of work accomplished since the
last meeting. Besides water
and sewer connections, they
had installed a flow meter at
