Pauline’s News
Pauline Rivers
! went bactr~to Mineola
today (Monday) and . he
pulled two of my front
teeth. I didn't bleed
this time. I am a free
bleeder and usually have
to have the blood
stopped, but so far so
good. I don't know yet if
I will have to have a
bridge fixed or do
without those two. Dental
work is like all other
work, so high! And I have
been out a lot the last
year of 1987 4 1988.
The Birthday's week,
Melton Ray Rivers is not
in July, his is in
August. My boys birthdays
are in June, Dwight,
August, Melton, October,
Bijly John, December,
Billie, February,
Pauline. You don't see
too many birthdays
running like that, we all
are • having too many.
Billie and I are sure
going too fast - getting
too old. He went to a
doctor over at Terrell,
but didn't get much.
None of the children
came down. It makes the
weekend very long when
they don't get - down.
Billie and I have both
had a very bad time. He
isn't able to do things
outside but has to do so.
I am not able to get
outside, and inside is
more than I can do. But
we will do our best, and
that is all a mule can
do.
We sure need that
good rain again. We still
have cows crippled in the
same way. We don't
understand what is wrong,
they don't fight and they
limp rather bad.
I talked to Sara this
Sunday morning. She is
not feeling good at all,
and she won't while she
is going to those doctors
and taking those
treatments. I took those
in the 50's, away back
there, and they didn't
know what I had. 1 was in
a Greenville hospital for
a long time, and set to
Dallas. A doctor there, I
have forgotten his name,
Maxfields I think, but
they finally called in a
head specialist away from
there, and he said what
it was, and I lost my
right ear drum. It
ruptured, and they
drilled that all out of
my right ear. I can't
allow the wind to blow on
me if I am outside, and
can't stand a fan blowing
on me at any time. I have
been down this time with
my ear over three months.
That is what they
pronounced Billie's
problem was yesterday.
But Dr. Lane had already
been treating him for
that, and they are giving
him the same medicine
that I have taken fo) 31
years. It isn't one bit
of fun to be drunk for 3
to 6 months at a time. I
can't stand any air into
my ear at any time. That
is why I keep cotton in
my ear, and when I'm
outside I have a gparf on
my head. He will know
what it is like, so far
no cure, just treat it
and stay out of the wind.
I . looked for the boys,
some of them, but they
also have things to do.
Louise Hooten, of Lone
Oak, went to stay with
Mama and the Francis',
Nell and Cecil Hipp went
to see them, and Louise
went with them. Shirley,
Louise's daughter, was
going to take Louise and
I down there, and Louise
was to stay and I was
coming back, as I can't
leave Billie here by
himself. I guess it is
good that we have each
other to look after, we
both have to be there to
see about the other. I
could have gone with Nell
and Cecil, Louise did,
but I can't ride in a car
like theira. I have to
ride in the front seat of
whatever I ride in, and I
can't look out side-ways*, '
I have to keep looking
straight ahead. But I
really didn't feel like
going and1 coming in the
same day. It is a long
way down there and back.
Billie has taken worse
since they left, so I am
glad I didn't go. I will
see my mother some daya
anyway, it may not be
here, but one day in that
after-while. My other
brother, J. D., can't go
see her either. He is in
very bad shape. I wish I
could see them both but
that is the way the world
goes, and we have to stay
put.
Rachel Keeler has out
her garage sale sign
she puts out
her things, she usually
gets a good rain. We got
that last one and she has
them out. Come by and see
them and maybe it will
rain again.
I don't guess anyone is
feeling too good in this
hot weather, and we
missed the rain again.
That good rain we had has
left us. Our garden is
gone, all but tomatoes,
and we are still getting
some nice tomatoes, all
we can use. He has, or
did have, some peas ready
to bloom, but they aren't
looking good at all. He
planted the garden over
in peas after the rain,
but they haven't come up.
I was hoping that they
would come up and make
some peas. I need them so
I will have some peas in
the freezer. Our garden
area isn't large enough
except for an early
garden, and then after it
is gone, we have our late
things, but no late
things yet.
I thought that Nellie
would*’call me when they
came back, but she
hasn't. If the good Lord
is willing I will get to
go later. I am about down
again. I have been doing
too much, and now the
both of us are out, so
there's more still put on
me. It is sure hot
weather, and has hottest
month has yet to come.
We didn't go any place
or have any company this
weekend. I was at the
tooth doctor and Billie
was over at Terrell to
see a doctor, so that was
enough going for us. That
going is sure expensive.
The doctors sure don't
mind charging you, it is
terribly high to go see
one. I have still more
teeth to be worked on.
That, and this spell of
three months of inner ear
trouble has been a bit
more than I can take for
a while. Billie's trip
Friday turned the car
over for good. It cost
too much and medicine is
out of sight, and we have
had so much of seeing
doctors and new
medicines. It is rather
bad to have so much. I
wonder at times if it
even helps us out. I am
still so weak that I can
hardly get around yet. I
will be so glad when (if
I ever can) get out and
do all of my things and
go to a few places. I
»hh't know how to act, I
have been a shut-in for
so long.
I didn't get to go see
my mother this weekend,
but I am taking off one
of these days if I have
to do so by myself. I
have never gained back my
strength since I had to
take all of that blood I
lost. I guess it takes a
while, that is what they
tell me. My ears rings in
my ears, but I am still
hoping that one day I
will feel a bit better.
But I am an old woman
anyway. I am a person
that always did whatever
and whenever I wanted to
do things, but not
anymore. I would love to
see my Aunt Lillian
Graham over at Dallas.
Maybe, I don't really
know if she's there or at
Imogene's. I haven't seen
or heard from her since
she came to see me when I
was in the hospital, and
I don't ever know when
Aunt Maurine is at Aunt
Nora's until she is gone,
to ask about her.
We have had two cows to
come up crippled. We are
wondering what has caused
it, and I told Billie to
have the vet out. One
has been that way awhile
and the other one was
that way Saturday. We
can't find anything
ourselves.
I can't get ahold of
Aunt Nora and Rachel. So
I won't get their news. I
will find out later. A
big dog ran into Rachel's
yard and caught her hen
that was carrying her
chickens, so she may be
out trying to get the
dog. Have a nice week.

seconded to approve the finan-
cial statements with the follow-
ing correction, that the Ex-
pense/Encumbrance/Revenue
Journal, Item 190-41-6283 be
changed to Third Quarter pay-
ment to Capitol Appraisal
Group. Also the Budget
Analysis, Item 6283E be
changed to reflect Third
Quarterly payment.
Under Item 5, discussion of
possible consideration of a
five-member Board of Review,
no action was taken.
The Chief Appraiser’s
Report was given to the Board
of Directors. The bill or in-

There were several things
brought to the7attention of the

One was building a storage

The 1989 budget was
discussed at length. After a
lengthy discussion, the Board
asked that the Chief Appraiser
obtain information on 1989
budgets from the surrounding
appraisal districts and the
Board would come back in
August and be prepared to
discuss the budget. No action
taken.
There was no closed ses-
sion.

seconded to adjourn at 9:05
