CONGRATULATIONS MR. KNIGHT
Bartlett congratulates Kirk Knight on his good
fortune in securing the backing of Leslie Layne
Houston capitalist in perfecting and marketing his
invention The Kuykendall Tree Shears.
Mr. Layne who is recognized as one of the out-
standing business men of the south and whose
numoi-ntis ariA pvtpnfiive business interests are
noted for their success throughout Texas and the
nation was highly pleased with the operation of
Kirk's invention Friday afternoon on the Bud Reed
ranch north of Holland.
Kirk who had received word by telephone
from Mr. Layne early Friday morning that the lat-
ter was leaving for Bartlett to inspect operation of
the machine admittedly was a little nervous as he
awaited the capitalist's arrival for fear his machine
might fail him on this occasion. The machine how-
ever seemed to sense the importance of the occas-
ion to Kirk and for over an hour the uncanny ma-
chine roared through heavy timber and under-
brush clipping trees at the rate of four a minute
without a single breakdown.

CEMETERY BEAUTIFICATION
" The Bartlett cemetery beautification committee
has announced that work will probably begin on
trie cemetery Monday and those who have made
pledges and those who desire to contribute to this
cause are requested to hand their money to any
fember of the committee within the next rew days.
Included on this committee are: Mrs. C M. Uil-
lespie Mrs. W.- W. Walton Mrs. E. T. Jones Mrs.
W. L. Stokes Mrs. D. K. Leatherman and Mr. A.
Gersbach.
Approximately $2000 will be required to com-
rlete the beautification program planned which
inr.lurleft a new iron fence driveways concrete
work and rebuilding t he tabernacle.
With the cemetery fund having only $500 avail-
kl frv fV.ic wnrk ih will be necessarv to raise
$1500 through contributions. Surely every citizen
of this community will want to have some part in
this worthy project.
As The Tribune has previously pointed out the
sacredness of the place to hundreds and the tender
memories of loved ones who have been laid to rest
there should make unnecessary an intensive drive
on the part of the committee in charge to secure the
necessary funds for beautifying the cemetery.

rVr.ef-1-iiffJv moves were beeun bv the Cham
ber of Commerce Tuesday night in attempting to
solve the lateral road problem faced by the people
of this community.
Rev. Theo'Streng's suggestion that-a survey be
made of the roads of the communiy and that the
community as represented through the Chamber
of Commerce present definite requests to ejich com-
rrilssioner was timely and appropriate. Obviously
..unless the people of this community are able to
come to some definite conclusion in regard to the
roads that should be built first it is unreasonable
"' to expect that much will ever be done in the way of
T--Q.ol ynaA -lAorlr in this communitv.
At the suggestion of John Lawrence the Cham-
ber of Commerce petitioned the Commissioner s
Cojujrt of Bell and Williamson Counties to give this
community a quarterly statement of receipts and
expenditures in the Bartlett Bell and Williamson
County precincts showing the' amount of money
spent in each school district for road purposes and
impossible designating the roads on which the mon-
3urely the Commissioner s Court m Bell and
Williamson Counties will comply with this fair and
jwafc request from the taxpaying citizens or una -um-munity.
If such a policy is followed by the cour
the long discussed question of discrimination in the
spending of road money within each precinct can be
definitely settled.
