and enthusiastic endeavors for
the building of at) all-weather
highway from Houston to
! Shreveport through this section
j of East Texas, the announce-
ment has been made that the
; stretch through Montgomery
county has been completed, the
last concrete having been pour-
ed Monday. This gives an im-
proved road the. entire distance
between Houston and Shreve-
port, traversing a section that
is rich with agricultural possi-
bilities, and giving tourists a
near end more convenient route
east and west
' To commemorate the com-
pletion of this road a big cele-
bration will be held 'ct Living-
ston Thursday, April 10th.
This fact was announced today
by Hon. J. R. Nichols .president
and manager of the Airline As-
sociation as follows:
“A meeting of the Airline
Highway Association is hereby
called to meet, in Livingston on
April 10th for the purpose of
celebrating the completion of
the Housion-Shreveport Airline
Highway. The last foot of
concrete w.as poured in 'Mont-
gomery county at 2 p. m. last
Monday. 21 days are required
for this to cure and by Thurs-
day, April 10th, the contractor
will have had time to clean off
the pavement and open the
road to the traveling public.
“The jubilation will be held
in Livingston. A large stage
will be erected on the corner of
the court house lawn and a
speaking program will begin at
1:30 in the afternoon. Notable
speakers who are being invited
are: Governor Dan Moody «f
Texas; Governor Huey P.
Long of Louisiana; State High-
way Commissioners and State
Highway Engineers of both
States; the mayors and repre-
sentatives of the Motor Leagues
of Shreveport and Houston.

According to announcement
in the Center Daily News, Hon.
'Martin Dies, candidate for con-
gress, second district, will open
his campaign at Center, Satur-
day, March 29th. His address
will be delivered on the court-
house square in that city and
no doubt hundreds of Shelby
county people will be present
to bear the gentleman.
Mr. Dies attended the recent
American Legion convention in
this city and made-a very -fa-
vorable impression upon the
greet crowd that heard him as
he delivered an address to the
Legionnaires.

tions will attend from Shreve-
port, Longstreet, Reatchie,
I,ntransport Joaquin, Tenaha,
Timpson, damson, Appleby,
Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Cleve-
land, Humble, Houston and
Alvin.
The program will be cli-
maxed when a large AIRLINE
ribbon, held by the mayors of
Shreveport and Houston, will
be cut by the Division Engineer
in charge, and the governors
and highway commjssioners
will pass through while the
bands play—‘Whan Krcams
Come True.’ ”

to Meet io Timpson
March 25 and 26

The North Side Baptist
church of this city will be host
to several hundred young peo-
ple of the East Texas B. Y. P. U.
and Sunday School convection
Tuesday and Wednesday of
next week. The session opens
Tuesday morning, March 25th,
at the North Side Baptist
church, the opening number of
the program being scheduled
for 10 o'clock.
The local church is busy
making -final plans for the en-
tertainment of the convention,
and Pastor Gathright is meet-
ing with splendid co-operation
upon the part of the entire citi-
zenship in his plans to take
care of this great number of
visitors. . Many prominent
speakers will attend the meet,
prominent among the number
being T. C. Gardner, Dr. M. T,
Andrews, Rev. S. If. Maples,
Rev. Bonnie Grimes, Dr. J. B.
Lawrence, secretary of the
Hone Mission Board, and oth-
ers.

Passed Second Time
Austin, Tex„ March 13.—
For the second time this session
the Sentfte Wednesday finally
passed a measure making the
statutes governing co-operative
fanr, marketing associations
conform with the United States
statutes in order that these as-
sociatcnx may obtain the bene-
fit of the Federal 'Farm Loan
act. A House bill to this effect
by Representative G. Y. Lee
and others was finally passed,
in the Senate Wednesday after
it had passed earlier in the
week.

A group of Timpson farmers
are planning to go to Athens
Tuesday, March 25th., to talk
with farmers in that section re-
lative to the growing of table
peas. The trip to that city is
to secure first-hand informa-
tion regarding the erop,"" For
years Henderson county has
grown peas in large quantities,
meeting with pleasing success
each year in the marketing of
the crop. S. C. Espy will head
the delegation on the trip to
Athens, and others who have
already announced their inten-
tion of going are: R. E. Ramsey,
N. Kyle, Tom Hughes, E. 9.
Ross and G. B. Sanford. Oth-
ers are invited to accompany
the party and those desiring to
make the trip are requested to
report to S. C. Espy. The
party plan to leave Timpson
on the morning of March 25th,

The Shelby County " Inter-
scholastic League will meet at
.Center, March the 28th and
29th, with the following school*
participating in the different
events: Center, Timpson, Tena-
ha, Joaquin, Tennessee' and
Webb. This is a list of schools
eligible to compete in the coun-
ty meet, each having paid its
appropriate fee. No school
that has not paid the required
fee is entitled to take part in
this meet, then it becomes nec-
essary that this be properly at-
tended to. If there be a mis-
take please report it to the
director general at once.
