The President has ap-
proved an allotment of
Federal funds totaling
$11,780,976 to be used
by the Works Progress
Administration in carry-
ing out the works pro-
gram in Texas.
The approval includes
projects which meet the
President’s requirements
of man - year cost,
adaptability to the relief
load problem in the lo-
calities affected, time of
starting, and period for
completion.

The government cotton re-
port for October was released
Tuesday morning, estimating
total production of 11,464,000
bales. This is 25,000 hales lass
than the September estimate
which was for a crop of 11,-
489,000 bales.
Condition of the crop was
placed at .64, and ginnings to
October 1, totaled 4,230,367
bales.

Installation of attractive
new curtains and scenery in
the high school auditorium
was completed a. few days ago,
which will add considerably to
the various programs to be
rendered during the year. This
improvement was sponsored
by the Parent-Teacher Asso-
ciation, and was made possible
through their untiring efforts
and cooperation of numerous
business concerns.
Mrs. Rex Brinson, president
of the Parent-Teacher Associa-
tion, says: "We are real proud
of the new curtains, and wish
to express our appreciation to
everyone assisting ha securing
the attractive improvement to
the stage of the auditorium.” 1

Nacogdoches, Oct. 8.—
Overpasses on highway 36
over the H.E.4W.T. railroad
both north and south of Nac-
ogdoches are practically assur-
ed during the next few months.
Present plans are to bring the
highway into town over South
North street which calls for an
overpass at the foot of Fro-
donia hill. The highway will
go through town by way of
North street, and the other
overpass will be at the point
where North street roads
crosses the railroad about two
miles north of the city.
The overpass north of town
has been mitered as federal
grade separation project No.
1 in this division, according to
a letter from Division Engineer
T. E. Huffman at Lufkin.

Within a very few minutes
after he had walked into a
local barber shop in this city
late Friday afternoon, Clarence
Wilson, alleged to be one of
the four desporadoes who
broke out of the Caddo Pariah
jail at Shreveport last week,
was arrested by Deputy Sheriff
C. E. Whitson aod City Mar-
shal E. A. Booth. A bullet-
torn car, which furnished
transportation for Wilson to
Timpson, was also taken in
charge by the officers.
Wilson was taken to the lo-
cal jafl and held for Shreve-
port officers. Within a few
T. N. Oxsheer, aged 75,
well known and respected citi-
zen of the Stockman communi-
ty, was accidentally killed
Wednesday about U'o’elock
on his farm, nine miles south-
east of Timpson.
Deceased had a wagon load
of seed cotton and was en
route to the gin, and while
crossing a bridge over the
bayou upon his premises, it is
presumed that the team be-
came frightened. Mr. Oxsheer
was thrown from the wagon to
banks of the stream below.
Funeral services will be held
today (Friday) at 2 o'clock at
the First Baptist Church in
Garrison and will be conduct-
ed by Rev. R. L. Hooper. Inter-
ment will be made in the Gar-
rison cemetery. .
Mr. Oxsheer is survived by
his wife and four daughters:
Mrs. H. B. Williams, Stock-
man; Mrs. ft. T. ChHds, New
Shady Grove; Mrs. George
Lowraacc. Silas; Miss Lela Ox-
sheer, Nacogdoches; one
brother. Will Oxsheer, of New
Mexico.

CUERO CHAMBER IN
TOMATO CAMPAIGN
Cuero, Oct. 7.—Cuero banks
and seed stores will cooperate
with the chamber of com-
merce hi the drive to secure
pledges for 200 acres of toma-
toes in the Cuero vicinity, ac-
cording to an announcement
made by Joe Arnold, secretary
of the chamber of commerce,
Wednesday. Fledge cards wiH
be available at both the local
banks, as well as at all Cuero
feed stores, Arnold said.
