The Christmas in June commit-
tee will gather on Wednesday,
November 18, to deck the court-
house and square for the Christmas
holidays, and your help is needed.
Volunteers are needed to assist in
installing the displays and l'ghts
that will deck the courthouse lawn
for the holidays.
Donations of money are needed
for replacing lights and other main-
tenance die decorations might need
Shirley Hams, who heads the
Christmas in June committee, says
it takes S400 to S500 yearly just for
basic maintenance and installation
of the decorations.
Merchants, especially those
around the square, are encouraged
to decorate their buildings and win-
dows with white lights to enhance
the courthouse lighting
The Christmas displays around
die couniiouse and the lights deco-
rating the square are beautiful
attractions that visitors to the coun-
ty as well as local families always
enjoy.
Lunch will be provided for work-
ers who help the committee on
Wednesday, Nov. 18.

test is met. a community of interest
is presumed to exist.
However, the petitioned ex-
change of Greenville exceeds the
22-miie limit on distance between
the petitioning and petitioned ex-
change utilizing the vertical and
horizontal (V&H) geographic coor-
dinates of the central switching of-
fices. but is within 50 miles of the
petitioning exchange Therefore,
the geographic proximity test is not
met and community of interest in-
formation is required pursuant to
Subst. R. 23.49 (cK3KCXi).
A community of interest state-
ment was filed w ith this petition in-
cluding the following information:
Greenville: hospital, mental
health facility, employment and
government agencies.
It appears that community of in-
terest ha> been established pursuant
to Subst R. 23.49 <cX3)(CXi) be-
tween the petitioning exchange of
Emory and the requested exchange
of Greenville
While the petitioning exchange
of Emory is located in the Dallas
LATA and the petitioned exchange
of Quitman is in the Longview
LATA, the serving local exchange
companies for those exchanges are
not restricted by federal law from
transporting local calls across a
LATA boundary
It does not appear that any
exemptions will apply to this peti-
tion pursuant to Subst. R. 23.49 (c)
(4)< A).
In summary, the petition of the
Emory exchange is considered suf-
ficient.
If the telephone company does
not request an exemption, ballots
will be mailed out by the telephone
company to subscribers in the Em-
ory exchange on Jan. 1, 1999. Sub-
scribers will have until Jan. 18 to
return the ballots.
