Annual Stag Party
W. E. lames Visits
Bartlett Tuesday
W. E. James of Austin can-
didate for State Superintendent
of Public Instruction was a
visitor in Bartlett Tuesday. Mr.
James was at one time county
superintendent of Williamsom
county and has had eight years
experience as Rural Aid Super-
visor and as First Assistant
State Superintendent in the
State Department :of Educa-
tion. Mr. James was born and rear-
ed on a farm in Van' Zandt coun-
ty. He is a graduate of North
Texas State Teachers College
and holds a B. A. degree from
Baylor University and an M. A.
dergree from the University of
Texas. He has Jtaught in the
public schools and in each of
the institutions of which he is
a graduate he -states.1 .

Members of the T. E. L. class
of the Baptist church entertain-
ed Friday afternoon with a
Christmas party at the home of
Mrs. Fred Blair with Mrs.
Cecil Ward and Mrs. Clarence

The reception rooms were
gayly decorated with Christmas
decoraticns and a white onnst-
mas tree stood in the living
room. There was a miniature
Christmas scene on the mantle.
Mrs. .George Hemple presi
dent of the class .presided at a
short business nieeting after
which a Christmas program was
given by the following: Mrs. J.
E. Condra Misses Alice Grigsby
Elizabeth Underwood and Joan
Stuart Mrs E. T. Jones told a
story on Neighborly Deeds.
Mrs. Underwood teacher oi
the class was presented with
an overnight bag by the class.
Mrs. T. S. Parker was given: a
rising vote of thanks for the
electric coffee urn presented to
the church.

BUSINESS BUILDING
Cy Young purchased the
building in which his business
is located this week it was an
j.ounced Monday. He will con

there.

by the late Rev. J. H. Hempel

Honored At Shower
Mrs. Alton Mann the former
Miss Ruby Faye Seales was
honored with a "miscellaneous
shower and tea Wednesday
afternoon at the home of Mrs.
E. P Jones.
Mrs. Jones greeted the guests
at the door and presented them
to the receiving line which was
composed of Mrs. Alton Mann
Mrs. Clarence Seales Mrs. V.
Mann and Mrs. Preston Isaac.
Christmas decorations were
used in decorating the home.
Miniature Christmas scenes
along with the conventional
Christmas tree made the living
room a gay setting for the
shower. The center of the table
was marked with a miniature
lighted Christmas tree and
Santa and his reindeers on a
reflector. Red tapes in green
holders furnished light for the
table.
Miss Alice Grigsby and Mrs
E. B. Ware presided at the tea
and coffee services and Miss
Syble Adams and Edna Braun
assisted in the dining room.
Miss Pinkie Wiederspahn pre-
sided at the bride's book.
Christmas Program
Given Sunday Night
At Presbyterian Church
Differing from 'the more or
less elaborate pageants given1
during the past two years the
Christmas program rendered
this year by the Presbyterian
Church was equally effective. A
representative' gathnng saw the!
program as given on last Sun-
day night.
Stereoptican slides showing
scenes and incidents from the
life and time of Christ were
used. Preceding the slides read-
ers concealed from view gave
the prophetical and historical
background daling with the com
ing of the Messiah as told in the
Scriptures. Ruth JfeaKe ana
Mary Martha Laughlin" had the
speaking parts.
During the showing of the
slides Rev. C. D. Peake read
the Scriptural passages as they
were flashed on the screen and
a concealed choir sang Christ
mas carols. The words to these
were flashed on the screen and
the congregaticn wc.3 enabled to
join in the singing.
Mrs. Irene Clark played the
incidental music and the ac-
companiments .to the -carols;
Donald Warden and Enrollee
Brady of the C.C.C. camp op
erated the stereoptican macnine.
The program was under the

Mrs. C. D. Peake.

Bartlett Students Begin
Xmas Holidays Wed.
Students of the Bartlett
Schools began their Christmas
holidays at noon Wednesday
when school was turned' out one
day earlier than had been an-
nounced earlier in the year.
Classes will be resumed .on
January 3 after the New Year's
holidays
Bartlett Farmers
Sign Applications
For Farm Payment
Farmers of the Bartlett com-
munity were busy Tuesday fill-
ing out and signing applications
for payment of the 1937 farm
program. Applications were fill-
ed out and signed at the Bart-
lett Chamber of Commerce of-
fice with the assistance of E. M.
Steglich. local committeeman.
There were 2300 applications
sent out to Bell county farmers
from the Belton office Mr. Steg
lish stated. These forms are re
turned to the Belton office
where they are checked and sent
'to College Station for final ap
proval. It is understood ithat
after' approval . at College Sta-
tion farmers will be mailed
checks for their part due under
the program.
Twenty-Fifth Weddiner
Anniversary Celebrated
By Mr. arid Mrs. Tegge
Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Tegge en
tertained with a turkey dinner
at their home Friday night the
occasion being their twentieth
wedding anniversary. The din-
ing table was laid with a white
linen cloth with a miniature
Christmas scene marking the
center of the table. Red tapers
burned in crystal holders. Au-
tumn leaves and red berries
'along with other Christmas dec-
orations were used in the liv-
ing room.

Bartlett And Holland
All Stars To Meet In
Annual Game Tuesday
Bartlett All-Stars and the Hol
land All-Stars will meet at Hol-
land on Tuesday December 28
for the annual football battle
it was announced here today.
The game was postponed from
Thursday until Tuesday on ac-
count lof the heavy rains of
this week. '
Officials at the game this
year will include Ki Aldrich
ail-American football player for
the T. C. U. Frogs and Dick
Vitek backfield star of the
Texas ' A&M team during the
past two seasons'.
Pi-oceeds from this game will
go to the athletic funds of the
Holland and Bartlett schools.
Bartlett will buy sweaters for
the Bulldogs and Holland- will
use their share' to help pay for
the field lights.
The game is called for. 2 p. m.
An admission charge of 25 and
15 cents will be made.

Becomes Bride Of
L.W.Grimm Wednesday
. Miss Viola Meissner daughter
of Edd Meisisner became the
bride of Lee William Grimm son
of Mrs. Fred Grimm Wednes-
day afternoon December 22 at
4 o'clock at the St. John Luthern
Church. Rev. Theo Streng offi
ciated and Mrs. Streng furnish
ed the music.
The bride wore a flesh pink
taffeta frock made along prin
cesss lines. The bride's veil was
trimmed with sprays of orange
blossoms and her bouquet was
of white carnations.
Mr. and Mrs. Grimm left for
a short wedding trip and Mrs
Grimm wore a royal blue. crepe
suit with blue accessories. The
couple will make their home on
a. farm west of town.

ducted at the Oscar Pochman
residence Tuesday afternoon
December 21 for William Poch-
man who died suddenly Sunday
at the home of his brother.
Mr. Pochman was born

Miss Nola Ruth Henington
who is studying to become a
registered nurse at King
Daughters Hospital in Temple
completed her mid-trm exam-
inations last week with highest
honors in her class.
Miss Henington is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Henington and was. graduated
from the Bartlett High School
last spring. Her Christmas va-
cation will begin on Dec. 27 and!
continue until January 3. She
expects to be at home to spend
the time with her parents.
