Avon Customers
Making News
by Darlene Kneberg 473*3508
Last week was my first com-
munity news article about my
Avon customer, hope you en-
joyed it.
Beginning this week’s news
is a trip taken to Cedarville,
Arkansas, near Fort Smith, by
David and Judy Emerline and
their daughter, Debbie. My
son, Jim, also went on the trip.
They left Tuesday, Feb. 14 to
see the newborn daughter of
Melissa and Rodger Emberton,
the daughter and son-in-law of
David and Judy Emerline. The
baby was born on Valentine’s
Day at Sparks Medical Center
in Fort Smith. She weighed 7
lbs. 8 ounces and was named
Judy Lee Ann after her grand-
mother. Rick and Lisa
Hydleberg, another daughter
and son-in-law of David and
Judy Emerline, also live in
Cedarville and were happy to
have their family there
visiting. The travelers were all
back home by Thursday after
an enjoyable trip, even though
it rained throughout much of
their journey.
Rev. Jeff Thompson’s wife,
Jeannie, began substitute
teaching about three weeks ago
at Rains School. She is often
called on very little notice to
fill in for an absent teacher,
etc. She teaches a variety of
different age groups, which is
quite an adjustment, but she
enjoys teaching the children
and feels it is certainly a learn-
ing experience for her, as well
as them.
Joyce Shipp, and her hus-
band, Kenneth, have made
several trips to Corsicana,
Texas to visit her father,
Aubrey Fitzgerald, who was
admitted to Navarro Region
Hospital on Feb. 10 in serious
condition. He returned to his
home in Corsicana on Monday
where his wife, Vesta Lee and
other family members will be
caring for him. One of his
nurses at the hospital was Mrs.
Harris, sister-in-law to Allie
Ruth Harris of Emory.
My husband, Jim and I went
to Tyler Saturday night for his
birthday. We browsed through
the it,all, then ate at a Mexican
resta irant called Chula Vista
for the first, and last time. We
enjoyed the Mexican surroun-
dings, friendly service, and the
food that we were not ac-
customed to eating, except that
it was seasoned with such hot
spices and peppers that we
couldn't drink enough water. I
guess we’ll have to stick to
good ol’ American food. My
husband’s birthday was actual-
ly Sunday, February 19. How
old was he? He was 39 (again)
according to what he told
everyone who asked.
Have a nice week!

contestant in the pageant. She
represents the First Baptist
Church of Conroe.

cludes Christian character and
service, personality, poise,

ent and appearance.

a year and may go to the Na-
tional Senior Pageant in Atlan-

yourself the action that opens
for you the doors to the
goodness, the variety, and the
excitement of effort and suc-

Making payment on this debt to
yourself is the exact opposite of
selfishness. You can best pay
your debt to society, that has
made you what you are, by be-
ing just yourself with all your

You fulfill the promise that

The Dougherty Community
has enjoyed a beautiful, sunny
weekend, but it is awfully
cloudv this Monday morning.
Rains is in the forecast again,
but everyone would like for the
ground to dry up some. A few
people were able to work their
gardens these past few days
and some gardens were just
plain muddy.
There is still a lot of sickness
around. I believed the weather
has been the cause of some ex-
tended illnesses.
Georgia and C.F. Vititow’s
company over the weekend
were Glenda and Julie Weddle
and Karen, Mark and Mallory
Wigginton.
We were so sorry to hear of
the death of Mrs. Fay Melton.
She was the mother of Wayne
Melton and Carolyn Potts. She
was a teacher for many years
and taught a many a children.
Little Sue Ann Sparks en-
joyed a bicycle ride with Jesse
Weaver, April and Amy Len-
non. They had a good time.
County Line Baptist Church
was well attended Sunday mor-
ning. After church, our young
people went to Greenville to
have pizza at Mazzio’s. After-
wards, they led the Sunday
evening services, and as
always, put on a good pro-
gram. Peggy Taylor does a real
good job at working with our
younger people.
Brother Troy Martin was
still not feeling well Sunday
morning, so Brother Ray
Crumpton delivered the
message.
I hear Emory Baptist Church
had a guest speaker Sunday
night, Ted Turner. I’m sure he
was enjoyed by all that were
there.
Geneva and Wesley Jenk-
ings had the February Ruth
Sunday School monthly get-to-
gether. As always, they had
plenty of good food and
wonderful fellowship. They
talked about their upcoming
vacation to Padre Island,
where they plan on doing a lot
of fishing. Afterwards, tney all
played a game of “42”, where
Georgia Vititow and Weldon
Christian were the winners.
The stew at Bonanza Com-
munity Center Frday night
was a big success.
I hear they took up a good
collection, which I’m sure was
enough to take care of their up-
keep. These stews and home-
made pies are some of the best
around.
Bob Middleton and William
Sparks went bird hunting last
week. Also, Bertha and Dorthy
Sparks spent the weekend in
Palestine.
Charlie Sparks and Don
Johnson went fishing last
week. They enjoyed getting
out together.
Aunt Francis’ company over
the weekend were Glenda and
Julie Weddle, Pat Shipman.
Richard Easley, Georgia and
C.F. Vititow.
