Happy Birthday Friend......Flossie Poston (standing) visited
her friend Sadie Hutchins last week to wish her a happy birthday.

Celebrates 99fth Birthday
Mrs. Sadie Hut-
chins, a native of Rains County
and a resident of Green Acres
Nursing Home, celebrated her
99th birthday Monday, Feb.
27th. However, she received
an early birthday wish last
week from a close and long-
time friend, Mrs. Flossie
Poston. Flossie will be 99 on
her birthday June 17th. She
resides at Alba.
Flossie’s First remark to
Sadie was “Get up and let’s go
a fishing.’’ It seems the two
ladies have very fond
memories of their girlhood
days when they would dig
some worms, grab a cane pole,
and head for the nearby creek
in hopes of catching a mess of
catfish. “I can still hear her
say. If ya’II wouldn't make so
doggone much racket, we’d
catch a fish,’’ replied Flossie.
It seems Sadie’s sister Maggie
liked to talk while they fished.
As I watched and listened to
the two of them talk I thought
of the poem Friends Old and
New, the first stanza goes like
this:
Make new friends, but keep
the old; Those are silver, these

NEWS FROM GREEN ACRES
By Sandra Frost
RAINS COUNTY LEADER

are gold. New-made friend-
ships, like new wine. Age will
mellow and refine. Friendships
that have stood the tesi - Time
and change arc surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow
gray, Friendship never knows
decay.
As Flossie said goodbye to
her friend she said, “Sadie, if
you go before I do, tell ’em I’m
coming too.’’ “Alright,"
Sadie answered.
I thought from the beautiful
day yesterday that spring was
almost here but it is back to a
blue Monday today. I am ready
for spring.
Our schedule was kinda ir-
regular last week. On Monday
we played Bible Trivia since 1
had to go to Paris Jr. College
on Tuesday to an 8 hour class.
I enjoyed the class but not the
drive I go once a year.
Wednesday was Bible Study
with Bro. Jenke. Audrey Hill
could hardly fill all the requests
for songs. Everyone was really
into singing that day and they
enjoyed it so much they didn’t
want to quit. There was about
29 residents in Bible Study.
That is how I wish it could be
all the time. Later, Wednes-
day, we did some liquid em-
broidery .
On Thursday after my
meeting we painted ceramics.
Thanks to Billie Shotwell for
firing them for us. Maybe
someday we can get our own
kiln.
Of course Friday was bingo.
Several of my regular
volunteers were not able to be
here and I sure was worried but
the ladies from Lone Oak
showed up. I sure was glad to
see them. We always ap-
preciate them for coming once
a month and for bringing lots
of prizes. Thank the Lord, this
was their time to come.
The Baptist Church was not
able to come Sunday afternoon
because of Mrs. Melton’s
funeral. Our sympathy goes to
the Melton family Several of
the residents were terribly
upset when we got the word of
her passing. They were close
friends. We appreciate the
family thinking about us. They
brought some beautiful flowers
out this morning.
Our sympathy also goes to
the Harbison family. Roy Har-
bison passed away Friday mor-
ning. Wc will all miss him. He
was just getting where he was
able to attend some activities
and seemed to enjoy them. But
we are not promised a tomor-
row. Let's all do everything we
can today.
I thank the Woosley Church
for coming Sunday afternoon.
They are always ready and
willing to help any way they
can even at such a short notice.
The residents really do enjoy
their singing. I wish they could
come more often but jobs and
families have to be considered.
I wish I could have more at
night but I have to be here dur-
ing the day so I can’t work at
night except for special occa-
sions. That makes it hard for a
lot of people to come to enter-
tain. We understand this even
though we don’t like it.
The residents reported a
good Sunday School as usual.
The ladies should have extra
stars in their crown for the ser-
vice they are doing each Sun-
day morning. They are always
here. Pray for them and sup-
port in any way you can.
Well, Wednesday is March
the 1st. Will it come in like a
lamb or a lion? Thursday will
be the Senior Citizens band.
They were not able to be here
last month because of the
weather. I hope it will be pretty
this time. We missed seeing all
of them. You all come and let's
have a big time Thursday at
6:30 p.m.
Sadie Hutchins is in the
hospital. We hope she will
soon feel better and be back
with us. She is the only one in
the hospital.
The staff has asked me to
say “Thank You” to Maxanne
Potts and all the Orsborne
family. Maxanne is always br-
inging home made treats to the
staff. They really enjoy them. I
can't remember everyone that
brings things but just know
anyway that what you do is ap-
preciated. We have some real
special families here.
There is no place in the
world like Rains County.
Don’t forget Thursday night.
Come to see us!
