Crane Killing
CORPUS CHRISTI - A
Houston lawyer, the son of a
University of Texas regent,
has been indicted by a federal
grand jury in the fatal shooting
of a rare whooping crane.
Mario Max Yzaguirre, 28,
is scheduled to be arraigned
Feb. 17 on charges of violating
the Endangered Species Act,
federal court officials said.
The rare bird was shot down
as it flew over an island in
Aransas Bay, reducing the wild
population of whooping cranes
to 134 birds. U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service officials say
Yzaguirre told them he be-
lieved the crane was a snow
goose when he shot at it. The
whooper was a 4-year-old fe-
male.
Yzaguirre. with the law firm
of Vinson & Elkins, could re-
ceive one year in jail and a
$100,000 fine. He is the son of
Brownsville pharmacist Mario
Yzaguirre, a UT board of re-
gents member.

KENNEMER
The "Grim Reaper" has
been busy the last few
days. Mrs. John Spence
died last week and the
bodies of Faye Melton and
Ross Harbison are at the
funeral home, to be
buried Sunday and Monday.
I went with Dorothy up
to the rest home on
Saturoay evening. She
wanted to see her Aunt
Lee Briggs. Mrs. Briggs
wasn't there. She had
gone home with her
children, for the week-
end.
We saw Viola Northcutt,
Fannie Bullard and
Beatrice Hogue. Mrs.
Maude Northcutt seemed to
be sleeping, so didn't
disturb her. I was
feeling too bad to try to
get down the halls to see
others, whom I would like
to have seen.
Thanks to Imogene
Luckett for a Leader sub-
scription for her
daughter Georgia's birth-
day, last week. Also,
"Thanks" to Ethel King
for her and J.T.'s sub-
scription, and her
brother's, Thurman
Catron, of California.
They take it time about,
one does the subscribing
one year, the other the
next. I am always glad to
hear from both of you.
J.T. and Ethel came
over to Harmon's and
visited us a while. They
went to Lewisville and
took their little grand-
daughter home with them.
I had a nice letter
from Lettie Fleming, with
her Leader renewal. She
isn't doing too well, but
I am glad she is still
able to write to me. 1
get to wondering, when
you don't write, Lettie.
Our niece, Ann Remly,
who lives at Cedar Creek
Lake was by to see her
Aunt Ethel Alexander, on
Saturday. I didn't get to
see her. She thought I
wasn't at home. Sure
sorry I missed her.
Our two old folks -
Ethel Alexander and Gena
Schrimsher are about the
same.They each have bad
days, then will be a bit
better. Never doing well,
though.
Otto Robertson returned

home from Baylor hospital
last week. He is
improving. However, his
wife Juanita hasn't felt
well, and having to see
her doctor, also.
I talked to Bonnie
Fleming Lackowitzer last
week, after she came home
from the hospital. She
was still not doing too
well.
I'm sure most of you
have heard the Dallas
Cowboys are now in the
control of the 4 J's,
Jerry Jones as owner, and
Jimmy Johnson, coach.
Seems as if a number of
people resent the fact of
losing Tom Landry. One
guy said he hopes Landry
will get another team and
bring them in and beat
the 4-J team - my name
for them.
Our sympathy goes to
those who lost their
loved ones.
The sun has hidden its
face this Monday morning,
and I don't like that.
However, it doesn't
matter "how or what" I
like, the Lord is in
charge.
The following poem was
sent to Azrue from Lettie
Fleming, she is sharing
it with the readers:
It's wondrous what a
hug can do. A hug can
cheer you when you're
blue. A hug can say, "I
love you so," or "Gee, I
hate to see you go." A
hug is "Welcome back
again," and, "Great to
see you! Where've you
been?" And bring a rain-
bow after rain. The hug!
There's just no doubt
about it - Wc scarcely
could survive without it!
A hug delights and
warms and charms. It must
be why God gave us arms.
Hugs are great for
fathers and mothers,
Sweet for sisters, swell
for brothers, And chances
are your favorite aunts
love them more than
potted plants. Kittens
crave them, puppies love
them. Heads of state are
not above them. A hug can
break the language
barrier and make your
travels so much merrier.
No need to fret about
your store of 'em; the
more you give the more
there's of 'em. So
stretch those arms
without delay and GIVE
SOMEONE A HUG TODAY'!''
