Austin-State Comptroller
John Sharp has delivered a
total of $135.4 million in
September sales tax rebates to
1,076 Texas cities and 111
counties, 5.5 percent increase
over payments of one year ago.
Sharp said employment in
Texas passed the eight million
mark for the first time ever in
July, as the state’s job market
continues to show impressive
gains. Employment growth of
6.2 percent in the Austin
metropolitan area led the
state’s MSAs. The Dallas, El
Paso, Fort Worth, Houston
and San Antonio metropolitan
areas each maintained employ-
ment growth of at least 2.7 per-
cent.
According to Sharp, Texas
cities received $122.4 million
for their September sales tax
payments, up 5.9 percent from
the $115.5 million for
September 1994. Counties
were sent $13 million, a 1.8
percent increase overlast
year’s $12.8 million. Another
$167.8 million in rebates went
to the state’s transit authorities,
and $1.3 million was sent to
the state’s 14 special purpose
districts.
This month’s payments in-
clude taxes collected on July
sales and reported to the
Comptroller in August by
businesses filing monthly tax
returns. The mass transit
payments include sales tax col-
lected April through July and
reported to the Comptroller
June through August.
The next local sales tax
allocation to Texas cities and
counties will be made by Sharp
on Friday, October 13.

1995, up 25.66% from last Ju-
ly’s rebate of $10,170.94.

fromlaSt year’s total to date of

Bids Due By Sept. 25
For SRA’s Final Sale
The Sabine River Authority
(SRA) will sell over 884 acres
of surplus land in Hunt and
Rains counties lateY this
month.
Sealed bids will be received
until 10:30 a.m., on Sept. 26,
at the Iron Bridge Division of-
fice on FM 47, near Point, for
the 17 tracts of land ranging
from 4.4 acres to 283.5 acres.
Minimum bids range from
$600 per acre to $1,200 per
acre.
Financing on the land is
available from the SRA. Terms
are 10 percent down at closing
with the balance due in 10 an-
nual installments at 10 percent
interest.
Sealed bids must be ex-
ecuted and submitted on the
bid form available at the SRA
office in Point.
According to division
manager, Fred Parker, this
sale represents all the remain-
ing excess lapd the SRA has
around Lake Tawakoni.
"Over the years, we have
had several of these land sales
with lands we acquired when
we built the lake,” Parker
said. “We have slowly been
returning the excess land to the
tax rolls. As far as I know, this
will be the last sale, unless the
property doesn’t sell.”
He said so far there had been
a lot of interest in the sale, and
he thinks there will be a lot of
bidding for the tracts since the
economy is good.
Parker said all tracts were
sold at the sale the SRA had a
year ago, but the sale three or
four years ago only brought
three bids on 10 tracts.
