The Party was held at the

daughter, Samantha and
mother, Mrs. Alene Black-
burn were present also.
A good number attended
the area singing at
Pleasant Ridge Chapel
Sunday afternoon and en-
joyed by all.

3rd at 6:30.

Alba Ladies
Club Met
The Alba Ladies Club held
its regular meeting Thursday,
Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. with 15
members present.
It was voted and passed that
all area organizations would be
allowed to use the new mar-
quee beside the Post Office in
Alba and each organization
would be repsonsible for
changing the letters if they
wanted to use the sign. The let-
ters are stored at Wright’s
General Store on the square in
Alba.
Any persons interested in
using the Alba Community
Center should contact Marz.ee

Gaby 765-2579.
The next Alba Ladies Club
meeting will be on Thursday,
Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. Any new

Alba-Golden
Extends Supt.
Contract
Plus Raise
Alba-Golden ISD Superin-
tendent Elton Caldwell's con-
tract was renewed by Alba-
Golden school trustees last
week following an executive
session during which his per-
formance was evaluated.
Board member J. D. English
said the trustees unanimously
agreed to renew Caldwell’s
contract for the third year, giv-
ing the superintendent a $2,000
salary increase for the year as
well as an increased car allow-
ance.
Cayuga Over
Alba-Golden
Cayuga used a balanced
scoring attack to register a
73-48 District ISA A win over
the Alba-Golden Panthers last
Tuesday night in Cayuga.
Scoring for the Panthers
were Shane Proctor with 19,
Kevin Taylor with 10. Shane
Bass with 9, Gary Patrick with
4, and Jason Mayberry, Gary
Felphs and Scott Monroe all
with 2.
This brings Alba-Goldcn’s
record to 6-8 for the season and
0-2 for district.

were visitors in the Leader Of-

united in marriage Saturday,
Dec. 31, at County Line Bap-
tist Church in Yantis.
The Rev. Ray Thompson,
uncle of the bridegroom, of-
ficiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Don McKenzie
of Alba, and is a graduate of
Alba-Golden High School and
Tyler Junior College. She is a
registered dental hygienist in
Sulphur Springs and Quinlan.
The bridegroom, the son of
Sandy Thompson of Alba and
James Thompson of Golden, is
a graduate of Alba-Golden
High School and Stephen F.
Austin University. He is an
operator-technician at
Dow Brands of Greenville.
Maid of honor was Rhondie
Pogue of Alba.
Best man was Dwayne
Thompson of Alba.
Bridesmaids were Debbie

Recruit Kirsten M. Norris,
Daughter of Peter B. and
Karen L. Norris of Route 1
Alba. Texas has completed the
Basic Aviation Structural
Mechanic Course.
During the eight-week
course at the Naval Air
Technical Training Center
Millington, Tenn., Norris
received instruction on the in-
spection, maintenance and
repair of aircraft frames
(skeletons) and exteriors
(skins). In classroom and prac-
tical application periods, she
studied blueprint reading, cor-
rosion control and metalwork-
ing.
A 1988 graduate of Alba-
Golden High School, she join-
ed the Navy in June 1988.

related seizures as a re-
sult of routine traffic
law enforcement stops
during 1988. District
records indicate that in
the eighteen county Tyler
Highway Patrol District,
222 drug trafficking
suspects were arrested as
a result of these 141
drug related seizures.
These totals represent a
16 percent increase in
drug related seizures and
a 9 percent increase in
drug trafficking suspects
arrested when compared to
totals for 1987, accord-
ing to Captain Tony
White, Tyler District

stops resulting in con-
trolled substance related
seizures for calendar
year 1987 and calendar
year 1988:

Tyler Highway Patrol

these activities were a

while troopers performed
their primary duties of
traffic law enforcement.

of Wilson-Bartley Funeral
Home of Alba.
The child died Wednesday
in a Quitman hospital after a
sudden illness.
He was born Aug. !3,1986,
in Tyler. He had lived in
Golden all of his life and at-
tended Mincola Church of
Christ.
Other survivors include two
brothers, Johnathan and Mat-
thew Roach, both of Golden;
maternal grandparents, Mr. &
Mrs. Steve Yarbray, Golden;
paternal grandparents, Mr. &
Mrs. Virgil Roach, Alba; ma-
ternal great-grandmother,
Mrs. Charlie Butler, Golden.
He was the great-nephew of
Jackie Butler of Emory.
Pallbearers were Dwayne
Butler, Chad Butler, Heath
Butler and Buddy Thompson.
