With a flock that has been
properly reared colled, and
housed, high wjnter egg pro-
duction is largely a matter of
good management.
Look well to the bird’s
comfort. Keep their quarters
clean and dry-, and protect
them from draughts and
sudden changes in tempera-
ture.
Avoid crowding them. See
that all can move around free-
ly and have ready access to

the feed hoppers.
Proper "
essential. The mash should be
kept before birds at all times.
A “fleshing” wet mash may be
fed and in extremely cold
weather a warm wet mash can
be supplied. This is made by
mixing hot milk or water with
as much of the regular mash
as it is desired to feed at one
time. Feed the wet mash or
hot mash at noon. Do not over-
feed the birds, however, as it
may make theta sluggish. The
amount that the birds will
clean ap in fifteen or twenty
minutes is sufficient.
In addition to the mash,
feed grain. Some poultrymen
scatter a little in the litter
daring the morning to make
the birds exercise. The scratch
grain may be fed on top of the
mash in the mash happer. At
night give them all they can
eat; it is important to send
them to roost with fall crops
of grain.
A good grain mixture con-
sists of S parts cracked corn,
2 parts wheat, 2 parts barley,
and two parts heavy oats; but
equal parts of com and wheat
can be fed if prices favor this
simpler formula.
Besides the mash and the
grain, poultry should be given
all the water, green foods, and
oyster shell they want.
