Items needed for time capsule
As part of the First National Bank of Emory’s 100 year anniver-
sary on July 3, 2003, the bank is collecting items that will be stored
in a twenty-five year time capsule. According to Toni Fhreadgill,
"We want to show Raios County citizens what it was like to live here
in 2003. We are looking for a lot of small items to fill up a capsule
that will be sealed at 8:00 p.m. on July 3 during the anniversary cel-
ebration." “Imagine what people will think 25 years from now when
they open '.he time capsule and see pictures of how we look now No
doubt, they will get a big laugh at our clothes, hair styles and cars.
Who knows what banking will be like - you might go to the bank on
a laser beam,” added Threadgill. Items can be dropped off at any
office of The First National Bank in Emory or Alba. For additional
information, call Toni Threadgill or Dathene Russell at 903-473-

burglary of a building, which is a
state jail felony, and two counts
of burglary of a coin-operated
machine, a class C misdemeanor.

Dear Editor,
I would like to thank the Rains
County Leader for the wealth of
historical data published in for-
mer editions that has been used
to enrich the Learn and Serve
Projects completed by our third
and fourth grade students at
Rains Elementary. My students
and 1 have made every effort to
meticulously document the re-
sources we have used.
Our newpaper has been an
invaluable resource of historical
records about our community
and its citizens. Leader informa-
tion and contributions of bio-
graphical and historical data
More good news. I recently
heard someone say that without
businesses you have no town.
Have you noticed our local busi-
nesses lately? Many of the ones
that have been here for us
throughout the years are remod-
eling and becoming bigger and
better. People come from miles
away and spend thousands of
dollars to catch our fish, buy our
feed, fertilizer, trailers, beds,
couches, tables, watermelons,
building supplies, cattle, goats,
etc.
It seems like we have a new
business starting somewhere in
the county every week. New
businesses mean more and bet-
ter-paying jobs. I have concluded
that poor folks litter more than
rich folkS. I know I pick up a lot
more Spam cans than caviar cans
and more beer bottles than cham-
pagne bottles.
When a couple under tony
years old looks to relocate, the
first question they ask is “What
kind of schools do they have?”
Let me tell you about Rains ISD.
We have a brand ncs high
school, our classrooms are
equipped with the latest technol-
ogy and our children feel safe
and secure at school. Academic-
ally our school is rated exem-
plary, which is the highest rating
and literally means "serving as a
good example.”
Now for my promised predic-
tion. Within the next few years,
Rains County will be known as
one of the most beautiful coun-
ties in Texas. The only thing that
prevents it is us.
You can contact me by phone
at 903-473-2812, by mail at P.O.
Box 158, Emory, TX 75440, or
via e-mail at rains.co.litter(a)
globeco.net.
God bless America.
Reunions’
According to Deputy Kurt
Fischer, the man will also be
charged with four more counts of
burglary stemming from the ear-
lier break-ins at the cafe, the
upholstery shop, and the vacant
house.
Each of the three suspects in
the drug bust was charged with
possession of a controlled sub-
stance (penalty group one) under
one ounce and delivery of mari-
juana over one-fourth ounce and
under five pounds. Bonds were
set at $5,<XK) for each charge. In
addition, the 1990 Honda will be
seized.
