Love fund set up for 7-year-old
A love fund has been set up at the First National Bank in
I Emory for Paige Danovsky, seven-year-old granddaughter of J.D.
and Nell Jones of Point, who is in critical care in the PICU and
awaiting heart surgery because her left atrium is twisted which caus-
es blood to flow back into the lungs. Containers will also be placed
at county cafes and convenience stores for your donations.
Angel Trees are up for the pickin’
The Angel Trees are out and ready for you to pick your angel.
The Angel Trees are located at Don’s Restaurant, First National
Bank, Curves, Tawakoni Grocery, K’s General in Point, Brook-
shire’s near the pharmacy, and the Teen Tree is at ALCO. Older
angels are a bit more expensive, therefore you can go in with some-
one to fulfill an older angel’s card wishes. Also the filler items are
needed for the older angels. A list is provided by most angel trees
and various stores in town. Please remember to put your name and
phone number by your angel number and take an information sheet
to help with any questions. All angel cards are due back by Dec. 18
to any angel tree location. Santa thanks you for your help.
Historical Society Stew Luncheon
The Rains County Historical Society will host a stew luncheon
Friday, December 1, at the Heritage Center on Hwy. 276 beginning
at 11:00 a.m. Stew, drinks and dessert will be served for $6.00. All
proceeds will go to the improvement of the Rains County Historical
Park.
Angel Food Ministries sign up
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit organization, providing
quality food at a great price for anyone who wants to save money on
groceries. Sign up at the Rains County Public Library (Meadows
Room), Emory, on December 1 between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Cash
and checks only will be accepted. For more information call 903-

Free Family Movie Night!
The Rains Elementary PTO is having its first Family Movie
Night. It will be held on Friday, December 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
at the elementary school. Wear your pajamas, and bring your
favorite blanket and pillow to watch Ice Age 2: The Meltdown.
There will be free popcorn and drinks for the whole family as well.

Good Samaritan indoor thrift sale
Rains County Good Samaritan Thrift Shop will have a sale in
its building behind the Rains County Public Library on Hwy. 69 N.,
Saturday, December 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Most items are
$2 or below. Funds go to operate the center. The sale will consist of
clothes for all ages, small household goods and knickknacks. New
stock almost every week.
Head Start Bake Sale
Rains County Head Start will hold a bake sale around the
square Saturday, December 2, beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be
lots of yummy treats so come out and support Head Start.
Spirit of ET hosts Christmas events
The Spirit of East Tawakoni will host its Christmas craft show
on Saturday, December 2, open noon until 3:00 p.m. at East
Tawakoni Civic Center behind city, halt. The line-up for the Christ-
mas parade will be at 4:00 p.tn., leaving city hall at 4:30 p.m., parad-
ing up Briggs Blvd., Old Mill Lane, right on Oak Leaf Trail to city
property on Hwy. 276. At 5:15 p.m. there will be a tree lighting and
awards presented for first, second and third best parade entries.
Everyone is welcome to participate. Refreshments will be served.
Choral Society presents concert
North East Texas Choral Society will present its annual holiday
concert titled “Getting In The Mood For Christmas” on Saturday,
Dec. 2, at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday Dec. 3, at 2:00 p.m., in the Hop-
kins County Regional Civic Center Auditorium in Sulphur Springs.
Tickets may be purchased from any NETCS member, all local
banks, and the Civic Center Box Office. Advanced tickets are $10
for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The tickets will be $12
and $7 at the door.
Rains Family Christmas
The Rains Elementary PTO will host its annual Rains Family
Christmas on Saturday, December 16, at the elementary school from
9:00 a.m. until noon. Booth space is still available. If you are inter-
ested in renting a booth, contact Lori at 903-473-4394 or Christy at
903-447-9022. The booths rent for $10. There will be a free break-
fast with Santa and^Mfs. Claus again this year for the kids as well as
arts and crafts booths tb dp a little Christmas shopping.
Lake Country Neighbors Christmas
LCN will meet for its annual Christmas party on Thursday,
December 7, at the home of Betty Davis, 1615 RCR 3503, Emory at
11:30 am. Please bring snacks, dips or hors d’oeuvres, and sweets
along with your recipes to share with others. If you selected an
Angel for Green Acres Nursing Home, bring your gifts. Any blan-
kets or coats that you would like to donate to Good Samaritans will
be collected also. HO! HO! HO! Don’t forget your $10.00 gift for
Chinese exchange.
Christmas on the Square
Come shop, mingle and jingle at this year’s Christmas on the
Square in Emory, Saturday, December 9. Starting at 9:00 a.m., enjoy
shopping for lots of unique and one-of-a-kind gifts from dozens of
local vendors. Stocking stuffers, hand crafts, something fun for the
Grinch in the family - you’ll find it at Christmas on the Square host-
ed by the City of Emory and the Rains County Chamber of Com-
merce. Stay late to enjoy the annual Emory Christmas Parade at
5:00 p.m. followed by pictures with Santa! For more information

Chamber Christmas celebration
The Rains Count) Chamber of Commerce will have a Christ-
mas celebration Saturday, December 9. Terry’s Furniture will be
hosting Mr. and Mrs. Sana Claus from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Free photos
of children with Santa will be furnished on request by friends at
FEC Electric, and Santa an! Mrs. Claus are traveling to Terry’s from
Green Acres Nursing Home\

deadline to enter is Friday, Dec«, at 4:00 p.m. Cash prizes of $100

sweepstakes winner for the Best Overall Float. The parade will line
up at Green Acres at 3:30 and wilWk off at 5:00 p.m. Come and
share this glorious season with youi^iends and neighbors and feel
the love.
Christmas Parade^ Homes
Members of the Rains Junior High Veer Squad are excited to
announce that six homes will be availably tour on the third annu-
al Christmas Parade of Homes the aftemo^of Sunday, December
10. Dennis and Gina Canada, Brad and Jolene Cobb, Joe and Becca
Munsch, Bert and Keeley Roan, Kelly and Donna Robbins, and
Sonny and Cheryl Shipp have graciously extended a Christmas-
filled welcome as they open their homes for the special event. Tick-
ets may be purchased at the Rains Junior High office, All Through
the House or from junior high cheer squad lfiembers. Additional
information about the Christmas Parade of Homes will be included
in future issues of the Rains County Leader.
Emory holiday decorating contest
The city of Emory will award three cash prizes for the best par-
ticipating decorated home. The contest will be judged by out-of-
county judges on Sunday, December 17 after 6:00. So be certain to
have your lights and decorations looking their best on that date. 1 he
city will announce the winners of the contest in the next issue of the
Rains County Leader. Good luck to all the participating homes in
Emory.
