RAISE MONEY FOR EVACUEES - Three Emory youngsters took
It upon themselves to raise over $2,000 for the victims of Hurricane
Katrina over the Labor Day weekend. Chelsey Hollingsworth, age 15,
and Lauren Sessums, age 17, started the fundraiser and were later
joined by Thomas Carter, age 13. The three conducted the fundraiser
in front of Brookshire’s and Max-A-Mart over a two-day period. They
originally were raising money for the Red Cross, but when evacuees
began arriving in Emory, they decided to give the money to the Rains
County Emergency Management fund. The girls attend Rains High
School where Lauren is a senior and Chelsey is a freshman. Thomas
attends Rains Junior High where he is in seventh grade. The three
watch as Austin Bank employee Misty Jones counts out the money,
$2,003 to be exact.

Since I was a little girl I have dreamed of
being crowned Miss Rains Countu. It is hard to
believe that my dream is coming io an end. It
has been a wonderful year full of memories I will
cherish forever. It was truly an honor represent-
ing a county I love so much.
I would like to thank the Rains County Fair
Association and Karen Young for making my
reign such a joy. Thank you to Deann Potts for
my beautiful portrait and Shannon arid Jennifer
Rusk for helping me with my parades. A huge
thank you to the businesses and individuals that
contributed to the scholarship fund. The money
is helping me further my education at the
University of Texas at Austin.
Now, as this incredible adventure ends, I
know that no matter where life may lead me, I
will always count my reign as Miss Rains
County 2004 as one of the greatest experiences
of my life. I love you all!
