honored and recognized hy the
hoard of directors of Keep Texas
Beautiful at the 37th Annual
' Keep Texas Beautiful Con-
ference held June 15 through IX.
in Austin.
Keep Emory Beautiful was
presented the Keep Texas Beau-
tiful (KTB) Gold Star Affiliate
Award for being one ol more
than TOO towns, cities and coun-
ties in (he Keep Texas Beautiful
statewide network taking
responsibility to care lor its
community environment.
Keep Emory Beautiful was
commended by the KTB hoard
of directors for the programs
that have been implemented to
prevent litter, minimize solid
waste, beautify public areas, and
educate citizens.
Annually, to achieve a level of
good standing. KTB affiliates
are asked to submit a report, pay
a fee, attend a training session,
and participate in one KT B
endorsed activity. In 2004, Keep
Texas Beautiful introduced the
opportumty lor affiliates to earn
Gold Star recognition by meet
mg additional criteria To
achieve this exemplary status,

their mission and goals, answer
questions about their public edu
cation programs, and provide a
letter ol support from their com
mutiny

the KT B Conference to receive
the awards and return them to
the Keep Emory Beautiful
office.
We appreciate all ol the Keep

sible And a special mention
goes to Ms kubye McKeown,
who was a very powerful and
determined lorce behind Keep
Emory Beautiful while she
lived. We know that she would
he proud of the Keep Emory
Beautiful members.
I am just dumbfounded when
the phone rings and someone asks.
‘‘What have you been doing the
last few days?” You can’t see tint
much, however I surely go to bed
tired.
After singing Friday night at
Elm Baptist Church, Garth
Looney was given a birthday din
ner. He is surely a great sport
There was a lot of good singing
too.
I enjoyed Nina Sallee's visit tins
week. She is surely a good neigh
hor and church member Elm is
lucky to have her and Bob Sallee
They both do a lot for the church
Shantil Wallace came visiting
Saturday and helped get ready for
the huge upcoming sale at the
Ellisons'.
Charles Morgan had surgery on
his leg this week and is doing l.m
Jimmy Spinks and Came
Thompson were given a birthday
dinner at Irma and Robert Spinks
