Craney. Wedding plans are set
for Nov. 4 at 2 p. m. at the
United Pentecostal Church at
Evadale with the Rev. Sam
Stalks, pastor, officiating.
There will be a reception In
the fellowship hall in the
church after the ceremony.
Mrs. Arnold Jackson and
Mrs. Joe Cates of Buna at-
tended visiting teachers and
secretary meeting in the Wil-
liamson settlement Saturday. A
group from the church attend-
ed Sunday school, M. 1. A. and
primary in the Beaumont
Church Saturday.
Mrs. Hattie Day has moved
her trailer house to the Thick-
et near her daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Orble Harris.
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hobbs of
Buna received word last week
that their granddaughter. Miss
Rosa Aline Townsend, was vo-
ted the prettiest girl in Gram-
mar School at Harrisburg, La.
She is eight years old and in
the third grade.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Rodgers over tin weekend and
Monday were Mr. and Mrs.
Philip Rodger from Beaumont,
Mr. and Mrs. Victor B. Rodger
Irorn Houston, Billie Buncrs
from Groves, and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Childress from Beau-
mont.
. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cole of
Buna visited their daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Williams
in Dallas over the weekend and
attended the World Fair and
enjoyed the Ice Capades very
much.
Visiitng the Homer Days this
weekend near Buna, were Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce Gravis and 2
children, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Murphy from Evadale, Earl

Mrs. Fannie B. Johnson from
Buffalo, she taught school sev-
eral years in Evadale and is re-
tired now.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Whitmire was her mother
Mrs. Martin Youngblood who
also visited Mr. and Mrs. O. M
Garsee near Buna.
J. V. (Uncle Jess) Walters
died at his home in Buna, Oct.
11, he was buried at Antioch
Cemetery near Buna. Grave-
side rites conducted by the
Buna Masonic Lodge.
The Jasper County Commis-
sioners Court Monday passed
an order creating the Jasper
County Civil Defense system.
The Jasper County unit was
'50 yard line seats"—IN COLOR,
created in order that future ef
forts in the event of natural
disaster or wartime disaster
might be most effectively
channeled. The unit was cre-
ated soon after Hurrican Carla,
when the need for an effective
organization became apparent,
officials said.
County Judge V. O. Easley,
Commissioners Harry Horn,
Kirbyville, and Dock Davis,
Buna, and P. V. Werner, coun-
ty coordinator, last Thursday
visited facilities at Port Lavaca
and in other Calhoun County
areas. The group conferred
with Coordinator James F.
Houlihan and attended a six
county area meeting in Vic-
toria.
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. McGee
near Buna had visitors from
Beaumont Sunday, Mrs. Mc-
Gee’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Weight and Mrs. Doviu Fergu-
son.
Mrs. Eddie Woodard and
Mrs. Lizie Woodard of Buna
visited Mrs. Carrio Parker in
Silsbee Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Everette Stew-
ard have moved into their new
home on Highway 96 near
Buna.
Mrs. M. M. McCullough Jr.
was honored with a pink and
blue shower on Gum Slough by
her mother Mrs. Allen Garsee,
Mrs. Charles Whitmire and
Mrs. R. L. Garsee. About 25
women attended.
Buna High School Band went
to-Evadale Friday and marched
in their annual homecoming
parade. Friday night they play-
ed at a football game between
Hampshire and Buna at Hamp-
shire. Saturday they marched
in the annual Cav-Oil-Cade
parade that was held in Port
Arthur, and led the Division
“G” marching groups. The
Band bus, driven by Director
Brackin, stopped at Vic and
Al s in Beaumont for a snack.
Mrs. I,. H. Bum honored
Mrs. Glenn Washburn with a
pink and blue shower Monday
in her home on Gum Slough-
Thicket road. Mrs. Washburn
lives in Beaumont. The Rev.
Washburn is pastor of the As-
sembly of God Church in Eva-
dale.
George Jones is visiting his
mother, Mr. and Mrs. Drew
Johnson on Gum Slough for
2 weeks. He is assistant man-
ager of a chain of grocery
stores in California.
Ann Morgan Wins
Student Nurse Honors
Ann Morgan, senior student
nurse at Baptist Hospital in
Beaumont, was chosen “Stu-
dent of the Month” and was
named delegate to the Regional
TNSA meeting held in Fort
Worth Oct. 13 and 14.
This was a Texas Nurses
Student Association workshop
and was held in the St. Joseph
School of Nursing building.
The theme of the program was
‘Learn Today and Lead To-
morrow.”
Miss Morgan Is a graduate of
Silsbee High School and the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arch-
ie B. Morgan of this city.

will observe new closing hours
for Friday and Saturday start-
ing this weekend.
In the future, the stores will
close at 7:30 p. m. Friday and
Saturday.
This isr being done in order
to give employees an oppor-
tunity to get off early to see
the football games, owners of
the three concerns said.

the North Texas State Univer-
sity Marching Band this fall.
Son of Herbert J. Whitney,
Route 1, Silsbee, Whitney is a
Ireshman music education ma-
jor at NTSU. He was graduated
last spring from Silsbee High
School.
Directed by Maurice Mc-
Adow, the band has gained a
wide reputation for its perfor-
mance at football games both
on and off the NTSU campus.
The marching group is reorg-
anized into the Concert Band
after the marching season and
makes extensive tours each
spring.
