Staff Sergeant W. E. Kessin-
ger has completed an 18 month
tour of duty in Alaska, and will
visit his wife and parents, the
W. W. Kessingers, while on a
30-day leave. His wife and
baby daughter, Candy, aged 5,
have been living with the Kes-
singers during his absence, and
will accompany Sgt. Kessinger
to his new assignment at Eng-
land Airforce Base in Alex-
andria, La., at the end of his
leave, where they will reside
for the next 10 months. While
visiting in Lumberton Sgt,
Kessinger will have the pleas-
ure of being present at the 51st
wedding anniversary of his
parents, which occasion they
will celebrate Nov. 4.
The YWA and the Inter-
mediate GA of First Baptist
Church of Lumberotn met at
the church Monday with their
respective counselors, Mrs.
Hugh Williamson, and Mrs.
C. R. Perry.
The WMU of the church is
scheduled to meet today at the
home of Mrs. Willett at 10
a. m. to eontinue their study
course begun some weeks ago.
They will enjoy lunch at noon.
The Beginner Sunbeam
Band, the Junior GA, and the
Primary Sunbeam Band arc
also meeting on Thursdays at
the church.
A letter has been received
from the Southern Baptist Con-
vention Achievement Program
committee of Dallas informing
the members of the First Bap-
tist Church of Lumberton that
they have been declared win-
ners of the district in the Tex-
as annual Achievement Pro-
gram for Rural Churches, and
as such will be presented a
citation at the annual district
meeting to be held in Febru-
ary in Woodville, and will also

Hears James L. Smith
The Azalea Garden Club
met Oct. 11 in the home of Mrs.
Leon Boyette with Mrs. J. F.
McGee as cohostess. Twelve
members and one guest, Mrs.
E. J. Wilson Jr., were present.
James L. Smith, who is em-
ployed by International Paper
Company, presented a pro-
gram. He was assisted by
James E. Huston of Woodville.
Mrs. R. A. Getchell was in
charge of the program.
Mrs. C. J. Thorn presided
over the business meeting. A
plant sale will be held Oct. 25
when the meeting is to be
held in the home of Mrs. J. K.
Bower. Mrs. C. H. Mitchell of
Beaumont will be in charge of
the program entitled “Table
Setting."
