well it is cold. cold.
Hog killing time. A lady
drove up in my yard and
said. “Are you Addie B.“
1 said. “Yes." She. bro-
ught me 8 pigs feet,
2 hog heads, liver and
fat. I salted down the
fat to make boiling
meat. That is some of my
seed I am reaping. My
dad would kill 2 hogs
and t beef. That was
good. He would salt the
beef down and it would
be good!
Well, there are many

this world but once.
If therefore there be
any kindness I can show

do. let me do it now;

Deceivers
By Jody Ferrell
The Kent State Hassacer
proved the Viet Nam Era
was the greatest inter-
nal division in the
nation since the Civil
War. In ttle Spring of
1971 tne National Guard
was called to the Univ-
ersity to keep the peace
after an anti-war d«i-
onstratlcn turned vio-
lent. During a second
march, demonstrators
threw rocks, bricks and
bottles at the Guardsmen
who in self defense
opened fire killing five
Rioters and wounding
several others.
The photo of the young
woman standing over her
dead boyfriend, arms
outstretched, screaming
in horror, was seen on
newspapers, magazines
and Network broadcasts
nation wide.
War Protestors demanded
the flags belowered to
half mast in honor of
the Kent State dead.
The Government refused.
Many buildings were bur-
ned at Campuses across
the nation.
1 was attending college
in Fort Worth when this
exploded. Uneasy feel-
ings filled the air as
we students wondered if
violence would engulf us
here.
Our College had a Free
Speech Forem. Behind the
student Union Buildinn
(SUB), the Free Speech
Club President stood on
a portable stage addres-
sing a crowd of 200 stu-
dents. Emotions ran high
as he denounced the shoo-
tings at Kent State and
condemned the Guardsmen.
He then invited anyone
to com# out of the crowd
and speak their minds.
One at a time, a white
male and a black woman
came on stage and stir-
red the students into a
frenzy. The man spewed
hate and poison saying
“we're next if we don’t
do something.' The black
woman aimed degrading

insults at the black
men saying if they were
real men they would go
out front and lower the
flags to half mast.
At one point the peace-
ful crowd turned into an
angry mob. Challenged by
the club President, to
follow him, about 40
people stormed through
the SUB, and out front
to the flag poles. After
lowering the flags to
half mast they held a
sit In.
On the second floor of
the sub. a young blond
headed woman weot hyst-
erically to a counselor,
pointing at the sit in,
"You see those people
out there? The National
Guard is going to kill
all of them!”
As the wise councelor
calmed her fears 1 wit-
nessed something stran-
ged and peculiar. A few
feet from me was the
President of the Free
Speech Club and those
same two people that
Just happned to come
out of the crowd to say
their bit. In complete
safety they were petting
each other on the back
for a Job well done.
The whole thing had
been a set up.
As a Christian looking
back, I can see why the
blble warns and commands
us to, “Try the Spir-
its...for many deci-
ever are entered the
world.“ Try, test what
you hear. Know who your
listening to. Think bef-
ore you act. See if this
person is being motov-
ated by the Spirit of
God or not.
Jesus warns us of dec-
eivers that would come
in his name saying "I am
Christ," Today there are
many self proclaimed
Messiahs and cults say-
ing 1 am the way. I am
Christ. Believe them
not! Also there are
people professing to be
Christians, of whom the
truth is not in them who
cause great internal
damage to the work of
God.
Whether we are in the
secular world of the
Spirtual, we are to com-
pare the hearts of men
and their actions to the
World of God. "For love
worketh no ill (harm)
to his neighbor."
To motovate Innocent
people with hate and
insults, then set them
up is not the Spirit of
Christ.
Jesus said, “Let no man
deceive you. "In the
right circumstances and
cur guard Is down, we
can be deceived but if we
stay close to God we
can be deceived, but if
we stay close to God and
his word and ask him
with a whole heart to
show us the way, he
will.
I can still see the
smiling faces of those
three deceivers watching
their handy work.
Unlike other colleges,
our Administrators did
not panic. Instead of
calling the police,
they left the demon-,
strators alone to blow
off steam. The whole
thing passed away peac-
efully. Had the school
panicked, a powder keg
would nave exploded and
a lot of deceived stu-
dents would have been
Injured and jailed,
while the three deciv-
ing masterminds would
have gotten away, never
facing the consequences.
