Mr. and Mis. Thomas Sher-
rod are the happy parents of
a little hoy. Phillip Wright,
weighing nine pounds, arrived
this morning. Mother and son
are doing nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Todd
and son, Master Bobby, have
returned from Galveston where
they remained over Friday,
Saturday and Sunday enjoying
a little vacation and the cool-
ing breezes of that seaside
city.
Mrs. J. W. Stalling and chil-
dren of Houston visited Mrs.
Stalling's brother, J. T. long-
home and Mrs. Langhorne in
Timpson Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Graham Bai-
ley and children of Cleveland
are spending several days in
Timpson with Mr Bailey’s
parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. E.
Bailey, and his wife’s sister,
Mrs. Edgar Taylor and other
relatives.
Miss Sue Hawthorn has re-
turned to Timpson after spend-
ing several days with her fa-
ther, Homer Hawthorn, at
Center.

With the opening program
September 5, the Zend A vesta
Club of Timpson will enter
upon it3 thirty-second year of
uninterrupted and worthwhile
activity as a study club. A
group of Timpson ladies
sensing the benefits to be de-
rived through study of well ar-
ranged and carefully prepared
programs met in 1905. and or-
ganized for the purpose of
such work. We are not fa-
miliar with the manner in
which a name was chosen, bat
the club members of thirty-
two years ago, chose a name
of the Persians, Zend Avesta,
which means “sacred writ-
ings,” or “sacred text.” The
elah is not one for study of
matters solely of religious con-
tent, but it is presumed that
the name was chosen, because
of the earnestness of their pro-
posed endeavors.
The writer is far from as-
suming to be an authority on
matters of art, literature, music
ar.d even current events, but in
reading the well prepared year
books from year to year, have
noted that carefully prepared
programs have contained these

ly, it may be stated, it is among
the oldest federated clubs of
the state.
The ladies of the Zend
Avesta club have not confined
their work exclusively to
study, but have sponsored a
