Report cards will be issued
today. Parents, please look care-
fully at the grades for this 1st
SW. Even though we are just at
the end of September, don't let a
problem area go unattended.
Looking back, students and
teachers alike feel that this first
grading period went very quick-
ly. Once we get the routine of
progress reports and report cards
going, both seem to roll around
very quickly. We are already
almost a week into the 2nd SW
with progress reports coming out
on October 13. Much help is
available at school to assist with
difficult classes. '
Mrs. Amick is prepared to
tutor both before and after school
beginning at 7:30 Monday-
Friday and in the afternoon from
3:30-4 except on Friday. Mr.
Ivie is in his room from 3:30-
4:30 Monday-Thursday also for
math. Ms. Hirst and Mrs.
Swanson are both ready for
tutoring in language arts for an
hour after school on Tuesday,
with Mrs. Swanson also staying
on Thursday. Mrs. Evans-Voyles
has created the Homework Club
for all areas on
Tuesday/Thursday until 4:30
with a snack and drink provided.
Other teachers may be available
on an "as-needed" basis. With so

The DMS campus always
enjoys participating in the spe-
cial dress-up days leading up to
Homecoming. The week started
out with pajama day, western
day brought out boots and hats,
60’s & 70's dressing yielded tie-
dyed T-shirts and teased hair,
Thursday was green & gold day.
Several of the teachers joined in
the fun with a group of Pink
Ladies sporting matching T-
shirts and interesting hairdos on
Wednesday; Mr. Ivie and Coach
Johnson cloned Fonzie by wear-
ing blue jeans, white T-shirts,
and Mr. Ivie even sported sun-
glasses and a leather jacket. The
week was enjoyed by all.
On Tuesday, September 19 we
kicked off the first of several par-
ent nights planned for the year.
Meeting at 6 p.m. with the final
count of well over 100 including
students, the evening was
deemed a success. Mr. Grimland
addressed the group to talk about
the Capturing Kids Hearts pro-
gram that many teachers have
attended, the purpose of these
meetings, the new teen leader-
ship class, and this age of tech-
nology we now live in and how
important it is for parents as well
as school personnel to closely
monitor the use of the laptop
computers.
Ebber Martinez who is one of
our technology consultants
spoke about the laptops and will
be on hand at future evening
meetings to answer questions
about the computers and also to
demonstrate how to check the
laptop's history, how to check
students' email, etc. Mr.
Martinez, along with others on
our staff, will be able to translate
into Spanish and answer ques-
tions about technology or other
matters.
The band's drum line opened
the musical part of the program,
with Mr. White bringing in the
remainder of the 7th & 8th grade
band for more entertainment. He
reminded the audience that this
was very early in the year for
showing off skills and there was
much to be developed.
Everyone was pleased with the
performance.
The entire assemblage lasted
just a little over 30 minutes
which was the goal. Mr.
Grimland had said that he knew
everyone worked and had other
responsibilities, but DMS want-
ed to be open to parents/families.
Many ideas are already being
tossed around of ways to
improve the format of the meet-

ings and offer the community a
chance to see how we work.
Special thanks go to Megan
Rodriguez, Anthony Herrera,
Cody Spears, and Diana Alarcon
from the teen leadership class for
acting as greeters at the door.
They demonstrated their hand-
shaking skills that go along with
the Capturing Kids Hearts phi-
losophy and did a great job as
DMS ambassadors.
Our numbers continue to hold
steady. We had expected to have
several students enroll after
Labor Day, however, that didn't
happen. There have been a few
students move in and we have
had several check out, keeping
the flow about even. DMS total
population now stands at 267
with the 6th grade numbering 95,
7th grade 88, and 8th grade 84.
Individual sections of classes are
smaller than usual as well which
allows for a very favorable stu-
dent/teacher ratio.
HOMECOMING DANCE - As usual at high school dances, the
girls were dancing and the boys didn't get into the music until later.
The Homecoming dance with music provided by the Student
Council, Mekyla Leatherwood at DJ, providing the music, was well
attended.
HONORED - Dublin High
School teacher was among a
number of North Texas teachers
honored recently at a Texas
Rangers ball game, for being
selected local teacher of the
year. Lisa Leatherwood
received $100 and a baseball
from the Rangers.
