The
Take the remainder of this
week to return any overdue
books to the library, fine
free! By bringing in canned
goods or non-perishable
items for our local food
banks, fines are forgiven
and the community will
benefit from the
contribution.
This offer runs through
Saturday, Dec. 17.
Remember that library
hours are Tuesday-Friday 9
a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 9
a.m.-2 pm. Those times
offer many opportunities to
use the library and take
advantage of this Fine Free
Week!
Also note that these days
until Christmas are
dwindling down very
quickly. The library will
only be open on Tuesday
and Wednesday of next
week. That means stock up
on any materials that will be
needed......books,
magazines, DVDs, children’s
material, etc.
The library will be closed
starting Thursday, Dec 22
and remain so until 9 a.m.
on Tuesday, Dec. 27. Please
use the drop box outside
during that period of
closure.
Still looking for a gift for
those people on the
shopping list “who have
everything" Most of us
already have too much
“stuff” and don’t need
another 7T7H7? — usually
something to find a place
for or dust! What most of
us want this time of year is
to know that we are thought
of and loved!
Why not make a donation
to the Dublin Public Library
in honor of a friend or
relative. That person will
receive a lovely card from
the library stating that a
contribution has been made
in his/her name and by
whom. This is a great win/
win way to beat the
shopping/wrapping/
delivering struggle and it
benefits the giver, receiver,
and community.
For the readers who love a
“who done it?” try the new
You Can. It is new at the
library and what a page
turner! Patterson writes
short chapters and this one
is full of surprises.
Having not read this
author recently, I did enjoy
the fast pace of the novel,
through I have a very low
tolerance for violence. The
plot was well woven, the
characters interesting, the
settings well drawn, and
probably what I call the
“yuck factor" was mild; this
was after all a murder
mystery!
Patterson does turn out
bestsellers “hand over fist"
and I certainly see why this
novel has been popular. It
is a quick read with very
short chapters; it’s easy to
find a stopping place-
however, 1 kept telling
myself I would stop at the
end of the next chapter and
was still reading half an
hour later!
Don’t forget that the
library will be closed for the
holiday. Those of us who
must have a stash of books
on hand, we need to plan
ahead for the days closed.
Use the Dublin Public
Library! It is a gift that
continues to give to the
community through its free
service s--important
especially at this time of
year when everyone is
watching the budget!
Stop by the Dublin Public
Library at 206 W. Blackjack
St. or call 445-4141 for more
information about the
library.
OBSERVE
Many charities are available
to help local families have a
worthwhile Christmas, but
volunteer Pamela Moore
reports that the economy
has prevented many of these
organizations from helping
as much as in years past.
“Charities are booked solid
and others aren’t covering
Dublin,” she said. “The
economy is so hard, you
can’t rely on the same
organizations as in the past.
Their hands are tied.”
With this in mind, she is
assisting Soldiers for Santa, a
charity organized by Rodney
Caffey when he teamed up
Bizznutz Deliveries with the
Stephenville community
veterans to deliver a
Christmas surprise to local
families in need.
Moore describes the
program by saying, “It’s just
local veterans putting their
hearts out there hoping the
community can take care of
their own.”
Right now, they are taking
gifts of all kinds for all ages
as long as they are in good
repair, like new or new. New
toys are encouraged for the
children, but are not
required.
Gifts can be dropped off at
the Dublin Citizen office.
Veterans are being
interviewed for enlistment to
the cause. Once the gift drive
Ls over, these volunteers will
deliver the presents to local
families in need.
Moore reports being
overwhelmed by the local
support Soldiers for Santa
has already received, saying
that many businesses have
already offered monetary
support.
In addition to gifts, the
charity is also looking for
veterans to help with
deliveries and the names and
addresses of families in need.
For more information or to
offer help, call Pamela Moore
at (254) 979-0741 or email
Caffey at rodneycaffey^

TWILIGHT:
Cont'd from A2
drama with Stacy Keach,
Stockard Channing, Rachael
Griffiths, Thomas Sadoski
and Judith Light about a
dysfunctional family with a
problematic connection to
the Vietnam war. It was very
intense and offered an
insight into what could be
described as the lives of
many families.
We also saw Noel Coward's
Private Lives with Kim
Cattrall of Sex and the City
Fame and Paul Gross who
stole the show.. It was
interesting, about a couple
that couldn’t live with or
without each other. It was
typicalofEnglishplaywriting,
understated and overly
dramatic but entertaining
for the most part.
Part of what’s fun about
the shows are the people in
the audience. I had the
chance to meet some really
nice people around me
including a woman from
Boston who has sisters in
Dallas and a couple from
the Netherlands who had
never been to a Broadway
Show and were being
thoroughly entertained.
These shows on Broadway
have the cream of the crop
as far as stars, supporting
case, orchestra, staging, etc
so it is the best you can find
anywhere. We have a chance
to see things almost as good
at Bass Hall and Casa
Manana in Fort Worth and
Fair Park in Dallas as well as
the Opera House in Granbury
and the theatre at Tarleton
where those involved are
working hard to make the
big time.
Movies are good but on
stage is better.
Support the arts if you get
a chance.
Thanks for reading.
