Dublin Livestock Auction gets new owners
By PAUL GAUDETTE
Staff Writer
If you’re heading to sell
some cattle at the Dublin
Livestock Auction, you
might notice a few new faces
around the ring.
New owners J.T. and Cayce
Pratt had their first auction
July 9.
Although the business is
getting some new
management, the couple are
quick to tell everyone that
the they will run the same
quality business that
everyone knows and loves
from previous owner Dale
McKinney.
“We’ve got some new
buyers coming in but the
market will be as good or
better," J.T. assured.
McKinney will still be
helping around the bam
even though he's passed on
the full-time management
due to health concerns. In
fact, the Pratts report that
he’s been a big help
already.
“We’re learning an
extremely big business from
Marla and Dale,” J.T. said,
“They’ve been great.”
The rest of the crew will
remain pretty much the
same as well although
The Pratts: Raney, Cayce, J.T. and Roan
customers can expect a few
new faces.
Very few things will change
about the way the bam will
run. The only real difference
is the time table. Sales now
start earlier on Fridays at 11
am Pairs start at about 1
pm and calves are expected
to start between 3 and 4
pm depending on the day.
The Pratts are looking to
run the sales a little quicker
but ensure that the customer
still gets the most money
for their animal.
“Customer service is our
priority. We’ll maintain the
integrity of the sale," Cayce
said and J.T. added, “We
want to make sure you keep
coming back.”
They stress that if a
customer is unhappy about
anything, they can talk to
them about it and they’ll try
to work it out.
In keeping with their
customer service, somebody
will be on-hand 24 hours a
day to receive cattle at the
bam.
Running the bam seems
like a natural choice for both
J.T. and Cayce. Both of their
families were involved in
ranching, Cayce’s father was
an Ag teacher and J.T.
worked at the Graham sale
bam for 15 years.

Dr. Harlan Raley

for Dubliners
Since November
19S1.
The decision to buy the
bam came after the Pratts
were at a salein Dec. 2009.
“We were coming home
from buying cattle," J.T.
remembered. “My wife
turned to me and said,
’Honey, we need to buy the
sale bam’”
He called McKinney, and
they met the next day to
discuss the purchase.
Although they come from
Graham, J.T. and Cayce are
looking forward to joining
the community. (They’ll be
moving to the area soon
with their two-year-old twins
Roan and Raney.)
One way they’re looking to
get involved is by helping
the Foster’s home in
Stephenville. J.T.’s father,
Larry Pratt is chairman of
theStephenvilleorganization
(and a member of the
national Board of Directors
for Beef Export).
When asked what they
thought of Dublin, Cayce
said, “I like it. Everybody’s
been real receptive."
“We’re excited to become
Dubliners," J.T. added.
