Journey of Hope.
Journey of Hope is one of
many fundraising activities
organized on the national
level by Pi Kappa Phi’s Push
America program.
Every year, three teams
set off on a 67-day cycling
trip in which they raise
awareness and donations
for the disabled.
The team that was in
Dublin last week set off
from San Francisco and will
meet up with the other
teams before cycling into
Washington D.C. on Aug.
14.
Since its inception in
1987, the program has
become a terrific fund-
raising event.
“Every cyclist has to raise
$5,000 before their feet
touch the pedals," Mike
Roux reported. “We’ve
raised $475,000 so far this
year."
75 miles a day, but the guys
aren't tired after the visits.
The visits reenergize
them"
Roux was quick to say
that nearly all of the funds
go to the cause, and it
wouldn’t be possible
without the help from
sponsors and generous
neighbors. KRG Capital
sponsors Journey of Hope
and Case Logic and Tooley
provided equipment for the
road.
Roux and the cyclists
related that people have
been ju§t as giving along
the way as they’ve been
handed fresh fruit to keep
their sugar up and even had
someone meet them on the
roadside with a grill to cook
a bratwurst lunch for
everybody.
Although they departed
from San Francisco, the
group hails from all over.
One of the groups comes
from Houston. Taylor
Petersen, a Colorado native,
admitted that while the
local hills didn’t bother him
but he wasn’t prepared for
the heat, humidity and
of friends who did it last
year and noticed they were
better people for it It's a
life-changing experience."
This could be due to the
time they devote to getting
to know the people they
help or raising awareness
for the cause or perhaps
even the friendships they
form along the way.
It was apparent to
everyone in Old Doc’s that
the group had gotten dose
over the course bf their
journey.
They even admitted they
held daily challenges to
pass the time and motivate
each other. One day, a
cyclist was challenged to
ride as long as he could
without sitting down. On
Thursday, the Houston
native was jokingly cursing
his biking brothers for
challenging him to drink an
entire gallon of Tampico
orange juice while on the
trek.
In addition to helping
others, they’re making
memories. That’s why they
chose to stop at Dublin’s
historic bottling facility.
“A couple of guys stopped
her last year, and it became
an official stop this year,”
Roux allowed.

become customary,
thousands poured into the

Dublin Dr Pepper’s birthday
celebration in June. This
year’s theme was “endless

the spectacle was a gigantic

festivities. Events like the
Tour De Pepper hosted by
Kids Across Cultures and
the Lions Club’s 10-2-4K
race helped draw the crowd
and get everyone excited.
