DHS still looking for first
district softball victory
To Coach Gary Bartee, the
improvements are obvious but
the struggles continue in district
softball action.
Friday in Crawford, Dublin
was tied 4-4 heading into the
bottom of the third. The game
was later called when DHS
trailed 20-4. The Lady Lions
returned to the diamond
Tuesday and trailed only 3-0 in
the third before going down 10-
0.
"The final score has not indi-
cated how well we've played
sometimes," Bartee said of his
young and inexperienced club.
"We're so young, we can't put
hitting, pitching and fielding
together. If we're hitting, we
can't pitch or field, or if we're
pitching we can't hit."
The Lady Lions continue to
have one inning full of miscues
on routine plays that make a
previously competitive battle a
rout.
Friday, the Lions host Hico, a
team Bartee calls "very beat-
able." Dublin is then on the
road Monday in Hamilton.
only first place victoies. Lowe
took her win in the 100m dash
in 14.22 seconds, while Bamber
won the long jump at 13-7.
Carmichael took the discus title
with a best heave of 88-10.
The discus proved to be a
solid event for the Lady Lions,
who also took fifth and sixth
place. Emily Button was fifth
and Vanessa Whisenant sixth,
with throws of 70-6 and 65-7-
1/2, respectively.
Dublin also took a pair of
places in the 1.600m run and the
shot put. Crystal Cardenas and
Yessenia Caldera were fifth and
sixth in the mile with respective
times of 7:03.55 and 7:08.49. In
the shot, Nicole James threw a
27-0-1/2 for fourth, and
Whisenant took fifth at 25-8.
The sprint relay was a high-
light for Dublin, as Makailey
Huff, Bamber, Valena Solano
and Lowe won the race in 56.33
seconds. In the mile relay,
DMS was fourth in 5:06.64. On
the squad were Lisa Reed,
Carmichael, Kim Garza and
Solano.
Lauren Fritscher was fourth
in the 100m hurdles in 19.78
ticks. Caldera was sixth in the
300m hurdles at 1:00.66 and
Reed was sixth in the triple
jump at 27-8-1/2.
Dublin will be in its final
meet of the year Saturday when
the Lady Lions participate in the
district meet in Hico.
