Report cards for the 2nd six
weeks' period will be issued
today, November 13. These
documents should be signed by
a parent and returned to school.
The 3rd six weeks' period began
on Tuesday, November 11 and
will end on Friday, December
19. The first semester will also
end on December 19.
The final pep rally of the year
was a memorable one. Not only
was it the last one for this sea-
son, it was the last pep rally for
Mr. Stafford, who will be retir-
ing at the end of this semester.
By special request, Mr. Stafford
treated the audience to his
incredible toe-touch jump and
received a loud round of
applause. The 8th grade stu-
dents all came to the gym floor
to sing the school song and then
returned to the stands to yell
loudly and win the spirit stick
one last time!
FCA officers for the 2003-
2004 school year have been
elected. They are president-
Lindi Anderson, vice-president-
Amber Lewis, secretary-Toni
Lewis, and treasurer-Noe
Alarcon. Mrs. Swanson spon-
sors this group which meets
each Friday morning at 7:30.
Students in grade 6-8 are wel-
come at these meetings.
The 7th grade teachers have
lined up an amazing group of
people to participate in the spe-
cial events tomorrow afternoon.
There will be bingo, basketball,
crafts, cosmetics, a computer
scavenger hunt, horseshoes, the
Dublin Historical Museum, tor-
tilla preparation, how to keep a
car running, a look at an emer-
gency vehicle, and a movie.
Each grade level will attend
four sessions lasting 30 minutes
each and will also have a 20
minute break during which they
can participate in a cake walk,
have faces painted by Ann
Keese, visit the Dr. Pepper
wagon or concession stand.
Everyone at DMS is anxious
to take part in these activities.
The football season ended in
DeLeon on Thursday,
November 6 with only 8th grade
playing and closing their season
with a win. This week the sport
has changed to basketball with
Coaches Bradford and Johnson
getting their teams ready for the
upcoming season.
Workout for the 7th grade
players will be from 4-5:30 each
afternoon and 8th graders will
be preparing for the games dur-
ing their 8th period class time
and continuing until 4:30.
Miss Lott's pre-AP history
class is working on a very inter-
esting project right now. Three
groups- of three students per
group are preparing newscast
reports on information about the
French-lndian War. Weather
reports are being prepared as
well as statistics on casualties,
battles, and the status of the war.
The regular American history
classes have been discussing the
Boston Massacre and Tea Party.
Math classes have been study-
ing angles with Mr. James,
while Mr. Stafford has shown a
film on and discussed rabies
with the students. This group
has just finished the tale of "The

Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in
Ms. Hirst's language arts classes
and in Mrs. Miller's computer
classes, they have been making
calendars and writing how they
spend their money each day in
order to compile a budget on a
spreadsheet.
Mrs. Orr would like for par-
ents to encourage reading at
home. A number of our stu-
dents need to make quite an
improvement in their reading
levels. If 20-30 minutes each
night could be set aside for read-
ing time, it would be extremely
helpful to all students, especial-
ly those who arc struggling with
reading and possibly collecting
the AR points required in all
language arts, literature, and
reading classes.
Several 8th grade students
have been helping Mrs. Miller
by taking candid pictures at pep
rallies, in the halls between
classes, and at extracurricular
activities. These pictures will
be used in the yearbook.
Retakes have been made for
school pictures for the year-
book, but the photo packages
purchased by the students have
not yet returned.
