Rarely in life are we ever
genuinely surprised. Recent
Dublin High School graduate,
Toby Fincannon, received a
genuine surprise Thursday, June
5, right,here at the Dublin
Citizen Office.
Dasa Cogburn, friend of the
Fincannon's, decided that she
wanfed to do something to help
the family during the recent
sickness, and death of Larry
Fnncgnnon.
Jason Blackmon of Dublin
Pawn and Sales donated a guitar
to Cogburn who has spent the
last seven months getting coun-
try artists to autograph the gui-
tar.
Cogburn attended the

will house Pre-K through 6th grade as well as the administrations offices.
Gustine ISO closed for a day

and got all twelve artists to sign
the guitar. Some of the artists
John Hancock's included on the
guitar are Kevin Denning, Max
Stalling, Sonny Burgess, Ed
Burleson, Jack Ingram, Tommy
Alverson, Brian Burnes, Radney
Foster, Roger Creagar, Mark
David Manders, Cory Morrow
and Daryl Worley.
"1 wanted to do something
on behalf of Larry. At first we
were going to try to auction off
the guitar but after Larry died,
we thought that Toby would
enjoy it more," Cogburn said. "I
want to show that people can get
things done if they really put
their mind to it and that the fam-
ily still needs help."

May of cancer.
Toby received his surprise
and a new guitar, full of famous
signatures on June 5 and
thanked Cogburn for his new
collectible guitar with a big hug
and a warm smile.
"1 don’t know how to play
guitar right now but it's some-
thing 1 could definitely give a
shot," Fincannon said. "It will
give me something to do."

The rumor that Gustine 1SD
is closing is untrue. A gasoline
spill on Wednesday June 4.
caused the school to be evacuat-
ed and closed lor a day Ihts
closing fueled a rumor that the
school was being closed by
TEA (Texas Education
Agency).
Steve Zurlinc. the out-going
superintendent, said they
weren’t sure how the hose
detached from the gravity fed
tank and leaked 300 gallons
onto the grounds, but the spill
didn't cause any residual dam-
age
TNRCC (Texas Natural
Resource Commision) requires
that the soil be removed to an
approved hazardous waste dis-
posal place. That is the chal-
lenge, at the moment, for the
school, finding and transporting
the removed dirt.
Zurtine. says in order to keep
a school running well, it takes a
cohesive effort of the adminis-
trative staff and the school
board. Good school board sup-
port is everything to a school
district, as well as the support of
the community.
The eight members of the
school board are very hard
working, acco, : ,g to Zurlinc.

They work many hard hours and
don’t get paid. The board is a
necessary, yet under appreciated
job and he has appreciated all
their hard work.
The people ol the Gustine
area are very supportive and
voted a bond, which uicreased
their taxes by 15 cents this year
to provide funding for a new
school. The school according to
the contractors should be ready
by the first of September.
Zurline has served as superin-
tendent for the past three years
and told the school board, on a
special called meeting
Memorial Day, that he wouldn't
be returning this fall. He has
accepted an assistant superin-
tendent's job in Marshall. The
school has turned a search tor a
new superintendent over to
TASA (Texas Association ol
School Administrators).
The people of the Gustine
area are veiy supportive ol the
school and voted for a bond,
which increased their tuxes by

He is proud of the Gustine
ISD and what an intern with (lie
DEK team, which evaluated the
school, said about the school.
They said that the si/e of
Gustines school is the preferred
size school.
MOUNDS OF DIRT-After the clean up and waiting for
removal to a proper disposal place are two large mounds of
dirt.
