Dublin Middle School By Patty Hirst I
Cheerleader Camp
It's going on now at Dublin High.
HAIL REPAIRS - Bubba Strube and his crew along with a
number of other roofing companies have been busy in the
past month replacing roofs throughout the area due to hail
damage April 23.
Evei. though school is offi-
cially out, approximately thirty
DISD teachers returned to the
high school campus June 2 & 3
to work on next year's curricu-
lum. Faculty members have
been working throughout the
year to align the core subject
areas of language arts, math,
science, social studies, and tech-
nology. The purpose of this
project is to make sure needed
skills are taught and mastered at
the appropriate grade levels in
these essential areas. This will
result in better-prepared stu-
dents and improved TAKS
scores.
On June 4 & 5 workshops for
teachers training in student port-
folios, TAKS strategies, tech-
nology skills, positive disci-
pline, writing techniques, etc.
were attended by even more
Dublin teachers than on the pre-
vious two days and by some of
the Lingleville faculty as well.
This four day opportunity for
educators was planned and
coordinated by Nancy Russell,
Curriculum Director for DISD
Summer school students
headed back to classes on
Friday, June 6. About forty stu-
dents signed in at the elemen-
tary campus with Mrs. Hammer
and Mrs. Rita Crouch teaching
in pre-K and kindergarten, Mrs.
Thompson and Mrs. Blackford
in 2nd and 3rd grades. Dalia
Rodriquez as ESL aide and
Diana Zavala working as side
on the whole campus.
Mrs. Nancy Crouch, lan-
guage arts/reading, and Mrs.
Starin, math, are heading up
classes on the middle school
campus lor approximately
twenty-live students. Classes
for summer school will run
through July 3 and meet each
weekday from 8-12. Nurse
Tre.sa Anderson, LVN is on
hand to handle any medical
needs that might arise.

Iclia Lanna Chapter of NSDAR met on May 20 for a salad
luncheon at the lovely home of Charlene Moser.
After a delicious lunch, the meeting was called to order by the
Regent FJoisc Horak with the opening ritual. Ivy Lou Cleveland,
Chaplain gave the opening prayer. The American Creed, the
Preamble to the Constitution and the Pledges to the American and
Texas flag were said by all.
Regent Floi.se Horak presented the President's Message about
raising the fees for applications and supplemental papers to the
National Society. The actual total cost to process one. of these is
8240. The delegates to the 112th Continental Congress will vote on
how much of an increase in cost the Society can absorb and how
mucli the applicant will have to pay. Being a one-time fee this
appears to be a b3etter solution that to raise yearly dues.
Charlene Moser gave the National Defense Message. She gave a
message from the National Chairman on the DAR policy on the
United Nations. Also an article on "When American Left Peace to
France” by Robert L. Bartley. It compares the League of Nations of
earlier times and the United Nations today. Also "Dying Gasps at
the United Nations" by Martin Gross.
Minutes ol the April 15 meeting were read by Secretary Dottie
Corbin and were approved. The note of resignation from Vice-
Regent Mamye Casey was read and was accepted reluctantly. A
motion was made my Rachel Dunn to let Melinda Hammonds fill
out the term ol Mamye Casey as Vice-Regent. It was seconded by
Ivy Lou Cleveland. The vote was in favor of the motion. The next
