I must apologize to those who
may have emailed their news to
me. My server was having
problems and she informed me
that it was going to last most of the
day and she regreted the
aggravation. Therefore, I could not
get your news out.
This was the quietest Memorial
weekend I've ever had. No kids,
grandkids or a husband. Ronnie
has been so very busy working the
fields and coming home way past
dark. The only good thing about
that was I had command of the TV
remote Control.
Sunday was Bobbie Layman's'
last Sunday at our church.
Tuesday, she moved to Lubbock.
She and I had a farewell luncheon
last Wednesday at the Ha* Penny
Di'nea'r which was very tasty.
Then we strolled through Wal-
Mart’s Garden Center after I ran an
errand there.
Pat and Sam Gilbert's Memorial
weekend was a take it as it comes.
They ate out Saturday, went to
church Sunday, then Sam cut and
raked hay, then baled it Monday.
Pat had the two grandsons over &
they were busy being boys. They
brought their .22 rifle and had to do
some target practicing.
Sue Keith is doing an update on
the church directory and for those
who wish to update addresses, etc.
can get in touch with Sue either at
church or at home. Sue said she
and Frank went over to Deleon last
week and had dinner at the Blue
Moon.
Dendy Couch was home from
Lafayette over the Memorial
weekend and had to leave
Monday. Daniel and Angelee and
the boys went to visit Daniel's
mother and the boys got to go
swimming at the Park.
The menu for dinner next at
church is B.Q.
Sharon Locke went to be with
her daughter, Felicia Blair who had
a procedure done in a Ft. Worth
hospital while Bro. David was
with his mother, Mary Locke who
had a procedure done in the
Stephenvillfe hospital, both at the
same time. Their weekend guests
was David's brother, A1 Locke and
his family. And his daughter was
down from Nashville which was a
double treat.
Atha Dedmon was real happy
to have her two year old great,
great grandson, Alex Barr from
League City, Tx. Saturday. She
said he let his parents come too.
Atha welcomed her 4th great, great
grandson, Damon Paul from
Huntsville, Al, bom May 26,
weighing in nearly 9 pounds and
23 inches long.
The Round Grove Cemetery
will have their meeting this
Saturday at 5 p.m.
Alice and Billy Keith went to
see Michael Barnes to help with
the celebration of his birthday. His
birthday was delayed due to
another family event. Alice said
their new phones have an echo
sound \vhen talking on them.
Bobby Keith spotted Phil House
out and about but he wasn't doing
the driving. They stopped and
chatted for a bit. Rumor has it that
Norma Nell House thinks that
Phil's mustache was really,
growing and that he needed to
shave.
Brenda Faulkner said they had
hot dogs and home-made ice cream
and enjOyecFsitting by the pool.
Ann and Richard Thome went
to Corpus Christy to see their new
grandson, Henry who was one
week old Sunday. They also
visited with the parents but first,
Ann said they had to get their
fingerprints on him first.
Don’t forget Zac and Lauren's
wedding this Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

What to expect during a portfolio review
Stephen Fambrough, AAMS
Financial
Focus
If you are serious about
achieving your long-term
financial goals, you should work
with an investment professional
- someone with the training,
resources and objectivity to help
you choose the right mix of
investments for your individual
needs and preferences. And
you'll want to meet periodically
with your investment
professional to gauge your
progress. You'll get more out of
these meetings if you know
what to look for - and what to
expect.
To prepare for a portfolio
review, you may need to bring
last year's tax return, recent
statements from your 401 (k) or
other , employer-sponsored
retirement plan, life insurance
policies and other documents
suggested by your investment
professional. When the review
begins, here are a few things to
look for:
Suitability of investments -
You'll need to make sure your
investments are suitable for your
individual needs. This may
mean holding on to investments
that are, for the moment, not
"doing well" as defined by
traditional measures, such as
stock prices. To cite a recent
example, from 2000 to 2002,
many investments were "down"
- and yet, they were still the
right ones for some people to
own. This isn't to say you don't
want to know your investments'
recent performance history - just
don't let it be the determining
factor in making "buy" or "sell"
decisions.
Portfolio balance
Investment portfolios are never
"static." You should be open to
making adjustments in response
to changes in your life; i.e„ a
child nears college, you move
closer to retirement, etc.
Consequently, it's a good idea to
review your holdings
periodically to see if they are
still properly balanced in a way
to help you make progress
toward your goals. At the same
time, you'll need to make sure
your portfolio is still aligned
with your risk tolerance; in other
words, you don't want to
inadvertently take on more risk
than you'd like.
Tax efficiency - Many people
don't pay sufficient attention to
the impact of taxes on their
investments. A portfolio review
may be a good time to examine
your situation and determine if
you are fully taking advantage
of tax-deferred vehicles (such as
your 401 (k) or traditional IRA),
tax-advantaged free investments
(such as municipal bonds) and
tax-efficient strategies (such as
holding stocks for the long tenn
to achieve the best capital gains
rate). Be sure to consult with
your tax advisor prior to making
any "tax-smart" investment
decisions.
Changes in investment-
related laws - Like most people,
you are probably busy with your
work and family, and you may
hot have time to stay current on
the always-changing law's that
can affect your investment
strategies. At your portfolio
review, your investment
professional can inform you of
these changes. In 2006, for
instance, the new "Roth 401(k)"
was introduced; if you have this
option where you work, you
may be able to receive tax-free
earnings on some of your 401(k)
dollars.
To stay on track toward your
important financial objectives,
you will find few events more
helpful than your portfolio
reviews - so make the most out
of them.

Commissioners end bridge
discussion
A short-handed Commissioners
Court decided to drop any further
investigation of the replacement of
a washed out bridge on the upper
reaches of Nabors Lake when they
were advised of the preliminary
cost estimates. Several residents
and landowners in the area near the
lake, west of DeLeon, were
present. The bridge in question was
located on CR 457 where it crosses
the upper end of the lake. It had
been rendered inoperable by the
flood of 1990. After hearing that
the cost to replace the bridge might
cost upwards of $1.2 million,
commissioners halted any fitrther
discussion.
