indecision and incompetency since the incum-
bent took office.
2. Approximately $500,000 in delinquent
taxes have not beep collected, penalizing
those who pay their taxes.

his oath of office by refusing to assess valua-
tions.
4. The present Assessor-Collector works
more alibi-ing his failures than attending to
his office.
5. Nick W. Mitchell will take the ineffi-
ciency, indecision and incompetency out of
the Tax Office.
6. Nick W. Mitchell’s years of administra-
tive experience give him the biggest- qualifi-
cation this office needs.

Gladys Fain of Silsbee.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Greene
and children visited. Saturday
up at Dam B with Mr. and Mrs,
E. H. Gilchriest, where they
are camping for several days.
They then toured on to Jasper
to visit Mrs. Greene’s brother
and family, Mr. and Mrs. John
director, will have charge
the program.

Emanuel WMU will meet
tonight (Thursday) in the home
of Mrs. Marie Romero.
Young people of Fletcher
Emanuel Baptist Church met
last Sunday night in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. 1. M. Butler Jr.
for a social.
The Bertha Sunday School
class of Fletcher Emanuel Bap-
tist met last Wednesday morn-
ing at 9:30 in the home of Mrs.
R. J. Bridges for.their monthly
business meeting. A devotion
was given by Mrs. L. L. Lewis,
teacher. It was “Chosen Ves-
sel.” There were 11 members
present. Refreshments of coffee
and cake were served.
Mrs. Judy Jackson entertain-
ed the Dorcas Sunday School England.

burgers, cookies and ice tea.
This was enjoyed by nine mem

Mrs. R. E. Holmes is confined
to Hotel Dieu in Beaumont for
treatment. She is in room 319,

The Fletcher - Loeb Home
Demonstration Club met Tues-
day morning, April 7 in the
home of Mrs. Travis Hooks.
The meeting was opened with
the club prayer and two songs.
There were 11 members pre-
sent. After the business meet-
ing Mrs. R. S. Masterson gave
a report on the district meet-
ing which was held in Belville
Texas, April 2. Following e
talk on sources of family
strength by Mrs. W. A. Wright,
and a program by Mrs. J. C.
Scarborough on covering shoes,
lunch was served at noon. The
next meeting will be in the
home of Mrs. McKenzie.
The band of Chance - Loeb
School went to Port Arthur
Saturday to hear the bands
from other junior high schools
play. They were accompanied
by their sponsors, W. P. Doug-
las, band director, and Mrs.
G. R. lies, a first grade teacher,
and the bus driver, Mrs. Ruby
Leathefwood.
The school board of Chance-
Loeb School met last Thursday
night to decide on the ninth
grade making a trip. They
planned for them to go to Six
Flage Over Texas. Plans are
being made for them to go May
20.
The regular meeting of the
Chance-Loeb PTA will be held
Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p. m.
A film on school drop-outs will
be shown.
A chicken and dumpling sup-
per will be held Saturday April
18. Serving time will be from
5 to 8 p. m.
A wedding shower will be
given for Mrs. Ester Thompson
Thursday night at 7:30 in the
fellowship hall of the Fletcher
Emanuel Baptist Church. It is
being given by the Dorcas Sun-
day School class. Her friends
are invited through the press.
Visitors in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Greene Sun-
day afternoon were Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Sims and family, and
Mr. and Mrs. Steward Goines
and family from Vidor.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Picker-
ing and children of Houston
spent the weekend in the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John D. Trahan.
Visitors in the home of Mr.
Mrs. Clyde Waters of Wood
ville visited Saturday in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B.
Waters.
Mr, H. A. Pennington of
Chicago, 111., and Mrs. S. J.
Knapp of Houston are visiting
in the home of their sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. W. B.
Waters. Mr. Pennington will be
visiting for several weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Waters
and granddaughter, Debbie
Flowers, and S. J. Pennington
went up to Warren Sunday for
a picnic, they met relatives
there from Woodville.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hurst Sr.
celebrated their 50th Golden
Wedding anniversary Sunday
in their home.

Laurel, Miss., is conducting a
revival at Chance-Loeb United
Pentecostal Church nightly at
7:30. Rev. E. W. Stanley invites
the public to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Wilkinson
of Tulsa, Okla., were guests
two days last week in the home
of her sister and brother-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Ogden Rosier
attended the Tyler County
Singing Convention Sunday at
Shady Grove Church near
Woodville.
Mr. and Mrs. Hurly Hamm,
and Mr. and Mrs. John Leath-
erwood visited Sunday after-
noon in Town Bluff with Mr.
and Mrs. N. E. Hamm.
Mrs. Henry Shettles and
Vickie spent two days last
week in Lufkin with her cousin,
Dr. and Mrs. Ben Vail.
Troop Cadet 528 and Junior
Troop 380 of the Girl Scouts
are taking a Red Cross first aid
course. The girls that attend all
four meetings will receive a
certificate. Mrs. Bill Teel is
Troop 528 leader and Mrs. Don
Hall is Troop 380 leader.
Ninth graders of Chance-
Loeb School are having two
car washes Saturday, April 18.
One will be at Pop Milner’s
Service station and the other
will be at the Percy Humble
station. Both are located on the
new Silsbee highway. They will
pick up your car for you.
There will also be a pie and
cake sale at both of these sta-
tions. All proceeds will go to
the ninth grader*

Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Pickering
and Mr. and Mrs. Larry New
ton and children spent the
weekend in Kirbyville with
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Picker-
ing and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ener en-
tertained close friends in their
home Tuesday April 14 to cele-
brate their 18th wedding anni-
versary
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ener, Gin-
ger and Charles visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Burl Harvey in
Broadus last weekend. Pat
spent Sunday in Woodville in
the John Sawyer home.
Hail fell in parts of this area
Monday morning as big as

and lasted for about 15 min-
