FORT HOOD
(AP) — Jury se-
lection issues
will be discussed
at a pretrial
hearing for the
Army psychia-
trist charged in
the deadly 2009
Fort Hood shoot-
ing rampage.
Maj. Nidal
Hasan's attorneys
and
Army prosecutors Fri-
day will discuss what
questions to include on a
questionnaire that may
be sent to prospective ju-
rors.
The court-martial is to
start Aug. 20 on the Texas
Army post.
Hasan faces the death
penalty if convicted of 13
counts of premeditated
murder and 32 counts of
attempted premeditated
murder in the November
2009 shootings.
Military authorities
initially decided that the
jury pool would be from
Fort Sill, Okla.
But the judge has said
that after that fact was
publicized, authorities
decided to bring in poten-
tial jurors from several
Army posts — including
Fort Hood.
Witnesses have said
that on the morning of
Nov. 5, 2009, a gunman
wearing an
Army combat
uniform opened
fire after shout-
ing "Allahu
Akbar!" — or
"God is great!" in
Arabic — in a
Fort Hood med-
ical building
Hasan where deploying
and returning
soldiers received
vac-
cines and other tests.
Several witnesses identi-
fied the gunman as
Hasan, who was sched-
uled to deploy to
Afghanistan the follow-
ing month.
Hasan, 41, is paralyzed
from the waist down
after being shot by police
the day of the rampage.
He remains jailed.
