US scrambles to rush spies, drones to Libya
WASHINGTON (AP)
— The U.S. is sending
more spies, Marines and
drones to Libya, trying
to speed the search for
those who killed the U.S.
ambassador and three
other Americans, but the
investigation is compli-
cated by a chaotic securi-
ty picture in the post-
revolutionary country
and limited American
and Libyan intelligence
resources.
The CIA has fewer
people available to send,
stretched thin from
tracking conflicts across
the Middle East, Africa
team dispatched to Libya
during the revolution
had been sent onward to
the Syrian border, U.S.
officials say.
And the Libyans have
barely re-established full
control of their country,
much less rebuilt their
intelligence service, less
than a year after the
overthrow of dictator
Moammar Gadhafi.
The U.S. has already
deployed an FBI investi-
gation team, trying to
track al-Qaida sympa-
thizers thought to be
responsible for turning a
demonstration over an
violent, coordinated mil-
itant attack on the U.S.
Consulate in Benghazi.
Ambassador Chris
Stevens and three other
embassy employees were
killed after a barrage of
small arms, rocket-pro-
pelled grenades and
mortars tore into the
consulate buildings in
Benghazi on Tuesday,
the 11th anniversary of
9/11, setting the build-
ings on fire.
President Barack
Obama said in a Rose
Garden statement the
morning after the attack
that those responsible
tice. That may not be
swift. Building a clearer
picture of what hap-
pened will take more
time and possibly more
people, U.S. officials said
Friday, speaking on con-
dition of anonymity
because they were not
authorized to discuss the
ongoing investigation
publicly.
Intelligence officials
are reviewing telephone
and radio intercepts,
computer traffic, satel-
lite images and other
clues from the days
before the attacks — the
kinds of material rou-
flict zone where al-Qaida
affiliates are known to
operate — and Libyan
law enforcement has
made some arrests. But
investigators have found
no evidence pointing
conclusively to a partic-
ular group or to indicate
the attack was planned,
White House spokesman
Jay Carney said, adding,
"This is obviously under
investigation."
Early indications sug-
gest the attack was car-
ried out not by the main
al-Qaida terror group
but "al-Qaida sympathiz-
ers," said a U.S. intelli-
gence official, speaking
on condition of
anonymity because he
was not authorized to
discuss the investigation
publicly.

and there are signs
marking young adult,
nonfiction, fiction, cook-
books, large print, reli-

Colvin, of the Friends of
the Public Library, said.
“A slide show will be
projected on the back
wall with pictures from
early book sales as well
as pictures showing how
the money from the sale
is being used.”
A large basket with a
theme, "In the Bag," will
be displayed and raffled
for $1 per ticket. Local
businesses have made
donations including
coupons for services.
Teachers can get a
free Wal Mart size bag
full of books for the
classroom on Saturday.
Polyguard has provid-
ed storage for the books
and Confetti's is provid-
ing the tables.
Residents can donate
books for the book sale at
any time.
“Some people donate
popular novels immedi-
ately after reading them
and these will be in the
sale,” Colvin said.
“Every year brings
repeat customers to the
sale including one lady
who gets the books she
will read for the entire
year and people from
churches stocking their
shelves.”

Tens of thousands
urgently heeded evacua-
tion warnings Friday
amid the threats at the
University of Texas at
Austin, University of
North Dakota in Fargo
and much-smaller
Hiram College in north-
east Ohio.
The Texas school
received the first threat
around 8:35 a.m. from a
man claiming to belong
to al-Qaida, officials
said.
The caller claimed
bombs placed through-
out campus would go off
in 90 minutes, but
administrators waited
more than an hour
before blaring sirens on
the campus of 50,000 stu-
dents and telling them to
immediately "get as far
away as possible" in
emergency text mes-
sages.
Authorities said they
started searching build-
ings for explosives
before the alert was
issued.
"It's easy to make a
phone call ... the first
thing we needed to do
was evaluate," UT
President Bill Powers
said.
"If the threat had been
for something to go off
in five minutes, then you
don't have the time to
evaluate, you just have to

Recent violent
