Pets of the Week
It’s a good week to get a dog from the Edna City Pound.
This week we have Gretchen, left, a female sheltie/corgi
mix that is about 1 year old. She is spayed and has a cur-
rent rabies shot. On the right is a small, 6 week old male
yellow lab puppy that was found on CR 328 at Loves.
Call Robert at 235-1292 to adopt or claim either of these
dogs. Also at the pound are Joe, a male adult rat terrier
mix that has been neutered and Cheerio, a 3-month-old
female black lab puppy. Call Robert at 235-1292 or
Susan at 782-8417 to adopt any of these dogs.

approval to assist with them
with their May elections. The
court approved a contract to
lease a number of voting
machines for Ganado to use.
Following a presentation
made at the last court session
by a representative of
Comm5 solutions regarding
an audit of county human
resources, commissioners
agreed to enter into a two
phase agreement with the
company. The first phase will

current policies and opera-
tions while the second phase
will be offering recommen-
dations. Funds for the service
will come from dividends
paid out from an insurance
renewal. Judge Simons
viewed this as a cost-saving
measure for the future.
In other news, commis-
sioners approved use of the
old fairgrounds for fire and
rescue training by the
Jackson County Volunteer
Fire Department on April 29-
30 and entered into an agree-
ment between the Juvenile
Board and Lighthouse 2911
to continue their work with
at-risk youth.

$18,977 in hangar rentals and
averaged $ 1 profit on each gal-
lon of fuel sold. Also, back in
September, commissioners
voted 3-1 in favor of spending
$150,000 to repair a runway
apron and other needed
repairs. If a fixed-base opera-
tor comes on they will take
responsibility for all of the
fixed asset costs.
“Personally, this is what I
was hoping would happen,”
said Bubela. “With the elimi-
nation of the manager position
maybe now we’ve got an
opportunity to bring a
mechanic in and get some
business going. Whether it
will break even in the first year
or two, I don’t know..”
In response to one of the ini-
tial proposals that envisioned
putting a movie theatre and
business complex on the prop-
erty, Pet. 3 Commissioner
Johnny Belicek, who has been
the lone opponent to keeping
the airport on county tax rolls,
replied “that’s right up my
alley because a for sale sign is
what needs to be put up there.
If he bought the place he could
do whatever he wanted to do
with it, then we could tax him
and the property would really
be making the county money.
The item will be added to a
court agenda at a later date to
vote on whether to advertise
for bid proposals for a fixed-
base operator at the airport.

Robertson is described in
the letter of nomination as an
“individual who has shown
pride and prestige by volun-
teering his time and efforts to
assist in the well-being of our
county. His dedication and
service to the people of
Jackson County are far
beyond a regular citizen of our
community. His leadership,
commitment and stature has
proven him to be a vital leader
amongst our communities.”
Business of the Year
The Jackson County
Herald-Tribune was named
2010 Business of the Year.
The JCHT is one of the oldest
businesses in the county, serv-
ing the citizens of Jackson
County since 1906.
According to the nomina-
tion letter, the newspaper is
very generous in giving dona-
tions and sponsoring many
organizations and activities in
the community. They sponsor
many local events, including
the Jackson County Youth Fair
and County Spelling Bee. The
JCHT donates thousands of
dollars every year to the coun-
ty schools and the Chamber
through its posters, programs
and Welcome to Jackson
County Guide.
The staff supports local
businesses, urging its readers
to shop locally. This past
Christmas they organized a
successful Shop at Home
event that drew a large crowd
of shoppers to our downtown
businesses.
During primary election
cycles, this business sponsors
a candidate forum that allows
voters to get to know those
individuals mnning for local
public office and ask ques-
tions they may have for each
candidate.
The owner of the Business
of the Year, Jim Moser, can
often be found behind the
scenes of many activities,
working hard to ensure their
success.
