pleting a course in diesel engines
given by the U. S. Navy training
school

JAP PRISONER: Sgt. Kenneth
E. Davis, 22. son of Mr. and Mrs.
George E. Davis, 117B West
Washington, is now a Japanese
prisoner. The family formerly
lived in Carlsbad, N. M , where
Sergeant Davis graduated from
high school in 1938. He saw ser-
vice on Bataan and in the Philip-
pines.
MEDICAL CORPSMAN: Sgt
Robert C. Moss of the army medi-
cal corps, is the brother ol John
L. Moss of Phillips, and in writ-
ing home enclosed a commenda-
tion from Major-General A. M.
Patch to his medical battalion
"for mentions and conspicuous
service during recent operations
against the enemy."

Official Retires
SAN DIEC.O, Calif., May 1 —
i/T’i—William 'Big Bill* Palmer,
69, veteran customs service in-
vestigator who has apprehended
smugglers along the Atlantic and
Pacific coasts and along the Mcx-
ican border, retired today after
3f> years service.
During his customs service he
has been stationed at Philadel-
phia, New York, El Paso, Hono-
lulu. in Cuba, Key West, Miami,
Tampa and Los Angeles.
PEARL HARBOR VET: Cpl.
Nelson Crone, whose wife lives
at 811 N Main. Borger, is in the
United States Marine Corps and
is a veteran of the attack upon
Pearl Harbor. He enlisted in May,
1939. and is now somewhere in
the Southwest Pacific.
REPORTED MISSING: Sgt M.
L. Baker, whoso wife lives at 811
N. Main, has been reported miss-
ing in action in Java since Febru-
ary, 1942. He enlisted in Novem-
ber. 1940, and bis home is in Lub-
bock, along with Cpl. Nelson
Crone.
IN AIR CORPS: PtV Henry
Unzen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Unzen, Borger, is now stationed
at Tacoma, Wash., with the Unit-
ed States Air Force. He enlisted
last January 4, and was graduat-
ed from Borger high school in
1937. Private, first class, Unzen
took his basic training at Joffcr-
