The reading of the Holy Scrip-

O. Eugene Slater, President of
the Council of Bishops of the
United Methodist Church, gave
the installation message.
After the message the Wesley-
an Singers performed the an-
them which was, "The Best of
Rooms" by Randall Thompson.
The words to the anthem were
taken from the poem "Christ's
Part" written by Robert Henick
in 1647. The poem reads,
Christ, He requires still,
wheresoe'er He comes,
"To feed, of lodge, to have the
best of rooms:
Give Him the choice; grant
Him the nobler part
Of all the house: the best of
all's the heart.
Next, the passing of the bish-
op's staff or crosier, the central
figure of the bishop's emblem in
the United Methodist Church,

neth Pope was assisted by the

Women and Youth Representa-
tives from the two conferences

was first ordered as a liturgical
ornament in the seventh century,
it signifies the pastoral leader-
ship and ecclesiastical authority
of the episcopal office.
Dr. Sidney Roberts, Adminis-
trative Assistant to Bishop
Stowe, led the litany of instal-
lation. Then Bishop Stowe gave
the response in which he spoke
of the dream of peace that Christ
brought to all men and chal-
lenged those present to strive to
fulfill that dream.
Bishop Stowe was appointed
resident bishop of the Dallas-
Fort Worth Area of The United
Methodist Church by the South
