THURSDAY ALREADY
IN TENAH A
hv Tom Reader
Thursday in Tenaha! A lot
going on here! Road work at
the red light is really a mess.
Folks don’t understand their
fine being doubled when they
speed in a work zone and
workers are present. We don’t
want a worker or a citizen
injured, so slow down and save
yourself a little money.

Construction going on next
door to City Hall. Randy
Whatley is in the process of
building new antique mall. Stay
tuned for the grand opening to
be held in the near future.
First Baptist in Tenaha
reported a great turnout for their
annual Halloween festival. The
young people were treated to a
hot dog supper and a lot of neat
games to play.

What a neat homecoming
Saturday! A great crowd and a
really good parade. The
Quarterback Club had good
food and a good bunch for the
hamburger lunch. The football
game didn’t go our way but the
young men played hard and did
their best.

Nutrition Site just lately.
Juanita Bush had a special lady
with her two days, I believe -
Madean Suber from
Henderson. Madean was the
wife of a former pastor, now
deceased. Visiting Cleona
Laviolette were her daughter,
Vicky Huckaby and grand-
daughter Brittany from Liberty.
Hope to see them all again some
day soon!
Irene Fleming had a cataract
removed, and is now able to
see more clearly, thank good-
ness! Eye doctor told her she
won’t need to wear her glasses
anymore. Wonderful! (I tried
going without my glasses dur-
ing the time I was having so
many eye surgeries, but I felt
almost naked. I’ve worn them
so long, I think they must be
grown to me.) Dell Franklin
said that she was to have eye
surgery in December. I used to
think that cataracts were com-
mon only among older folks,
but I learned that like arthritis,
this condition is not exactly a
respecter of age. I have an in-
teresting report about choco-
late. Seems that I may have
read it before e- if you have,
it’s fun to think about. Besides,
I was warned: “Send this to
four people and you will lose 2
pounds. Send this to all the
people you know (or ever
knew), and you will lose 10
pounds. If you delete this mes-
sage, you will gain 10 pounds
immediately.” “Chocolate is de-
rived from cocoa beans. Bean
is a vegetable. Sugar is derived
from either sugar cane or sugar
BEETS. Both of them are
plants, in the vegetable cat-
egory; thus, chocolate is a veg-
etable. To go one step further,
chocolate candy bars also con-
tain milk, which is dairy. So,
candy bars are a health food.
Chocolate-covered raisins,
cherries, orange slices and
strawberries all count as fruit,
so eat as many as you want.
Remember - ‘stressed’
spelled backwards is ‘des-
serts.’” We’re still looking for
you to come by the nutrition
site located at Timpson Hous-
ing community room at 128 N
3rd. If you don’t want to have
a lunch, you are welcome to
join in a game of “42” or an-
other game, or just get in on a
round table discussion. For
more information, call Dell
Franklin at 254-3789. Partici-
pants this week include: Agnes
Green, Dell Franklin, Beulah
Banks, Evelyn Bolton, Lorene
Garrett, Thelma and Veronica
Morris, Irene Fleming, Cleona
Laviolette, Juanita Bush, John
and Ruth Latin, Evelyn Cave,
Mildred Milford, C.R. Nunley,
Wanda Koonce, John Mims,
and Joe Nelson. To conclude
this column, I must share this
inspiring item with you. “ The

CHRISTIAN COMMENTS ON ECONOMIC RECOVERY
- pleges Support for Bush Policies -
Following the news that the reform when he was Governor,”
Christian said. “I believe in his
agenda of low taxes and fiscal re-
sponsibility, and will support that
agenda inCongress.’’Christian
also said it is time East Texas had
a Congressman who will support
the President, not work against
him. ’’For months, the liberals
have been attacking the
President’s so-called dismal
record on the economy,”
Christian said. “But now we are
seeing the real story.”
U.S. economy has grown at the
highest rate in nearly two de-
cades, State Rep. Wayne Chris-
tian (R - Center) pointed to Presi-
dent Bush’s economic policy as
the leading factor. ”1 think we are
starting to see the benefits of
President Bush’s policies,”
Christian said. “This recovery is
a direct result of the President’s
leadership on issues like tax cuts,
which are obviously working.”
Christian, who is seeking the Re-
publican nomination for Con-
gress in District One, pledged to
support President Bush’s eco-
nomic plan if elected to Congress.
”1 worked with and supported
President Bush on issues like tax
’’The economy is growing, pay-
rolls are growing, layoffs are
down, and the housing market
remains strong,” Christian said.
“I feel confident this is good
news for East Texas
families.””As a working busi-
nessman with daughters in col-
lege, I want to help these en-
couraging numbers turn into
jobs and more dollars to those
of us trying to pay bills and put
our kids through school,”
Christian said. “That’s why I
feel the working families of East
Texas need experienced repre-
sentation in Washington.”
Christian said his record on eco-
nomic issues while serving in the
Texas House makes him the most
qualified candidate to tackle
those issues in Congress. ”1 have
a proven record to run on,” Chris-
tian said. “I worked with Gover-
nor Bush to cut taxes and bal-
ance budgets here in Texas, and
I look forward to doing it in Wash-
ington as well.” Christian
pointed to his being named a
“Fighter for Free En terprise” by
the Texas Association of Busi-
ness..
