There is a story about a hard
working farmer who could
work down any man in the
county. He could split more
rails and roll more logs than
two men. Other fanners from
far and wide came to get him
to dig their wells and clean out
the ones they already had. He
robbed beehives and never
once got stung. He could talk
out fire from anyone who got
burned and it didn’t even blis-
ter. He never told anyone what
he whispered or he would lose
his power.
This fanner did not have a
fonnal education but he was a
great philosopher. He predicted
one day we would be under a
dictatorship; that we would all
be numbered; that his grand-
children would go to school
with black children. He also
served as a constable for sev-
eral years in Timpson and as a
deputy sheriff for Shelby
County. He was known as a
lawman of peace and order.
This farmer, philosopher,
lawman died Janary 27, 1935.
He was my grandfather, W. L.
Thomasson. This story is taken
from the book “Well as Com-
mon” by Ola Mae Thomasson
Adams. The book is in the
Timpson Area Genealogical
and Heritage Society library in
Timpson.
Another family book,
“Growing up on Grandpa’s
Farm” by Gloria Worsham
Dixon, tells of her grandfather,
James Bannister Askins, and
his family. A copy of this book
is also in the library. These fam-
ily books are a legacy for fu-
ture generations and an aid to
genealogy researchers who
visit the library.

Tenaha School News
Dear Friends and Tenaha Schools
We are pleased to announce that Aim For Success will be
presenting their programs to our students. Aim For Success is a
nationally acclaimed educational organization that promotes
sexual abstinence until marriage. Aim For Success is the largest
provider of sexual abstinence programs in Texas. Their programs
cover the risks of teenage pregnancy, the epidemic of sexually
transmitted diseases, the pain of emotional scars, and much more.
A staff development program will be Tuesday, May 14, at
1:30 p.m. Our teachers will preview the student presentation and
receive information on school policies, etc.
There will be a parent preview meeting Tuesday, May 14,
beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. It will in-
clude a preview of the student program so they can see firsthand
what the students will be hearing. This program equips parents
with the tools and medical information needed to communicate
effectively with their children without embarrassment. The par-
ents will learn how, when, and why to talk to their children about
sex. Aim For Success believes parents should be their children's
primary sex educators, but they have found that many parents do
not know how to approach this critical subject.
The programs for our students will be Wednesday, May 15,
during the school day. The presentations are fun, interactive, and
never embarrassing. We want to use Aim For Success presenta-
tion to challenge our students to fulfill their dreams and goals by
building self-respect, self-control, and self-discipline. There will
be three sessions for our students: a sixth grade session, a sev-
enth grade session and eighth grade session and a high school
session.
Although we are calling the meeting Tuesday a parent meet-
ing, this is a must see event for family members, youth workers,
counselors, nurses, and anyone who is concerned about teenage
sexual activity in our community. We encourage you to come
and bring a friend! We are also asking you to announce and pub-
licize this meeting and encourage your members to attend.
Sincerely,
Tom Jones, High School Principal
This column is dedicated to those of you whom, like me have
a few cookbooks but at times can't seem to find what you are
looking for.
I love comdogs, so decided one evening I would do my own.
I couldn't find a recipe in any of the books I looked in. Well! My

not number in the hundreds they are in the thousands! Well, just
in case you decide you would like a corndog, I don't want you to
be in the same dilemma, so I'm gonna share new found recipes
with you. A?
