Tales of Two Cities
FORT WORTH I’m
sure most of you have loved
ones or friends who are serv-
ing in our country’s armed
forces. I have a brother-in-
law, Captain Troy Palmer,
who is in the army and is sta-
tioned at Fort Hood, Texas.
He is awaiting orders to ship
out soon. PLEASE KEEP
HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS
AS WELL AS HIS FAMILY.
THEY HAVE SIX CHIL-
DREN. Love yall, Becky
Madden. Have a stupendous,
prosperous, fun-filled 2003!
Thanks, Becky. Will do.
TENAHA ... the 117th
birthday party was well at-
tended and we did enjoy Luke
Motley. He mentioned some
things that 1 identify with like
climbing trees and manual la-
bor.
AREA ... we were
shocked and saddened by the
exlosion of the space shuttle
over our Texas. Our hearts
and prayers go out to the par-
ents and children of the astro-
nauts. Keep your eyes out for
any debris that might help in-
vestigators find the cause of
the disaster. We had visitors
in the office from around the
area Monday and Tuesday
adn they all had stories about
what they heard and saw.
Some traveled to Nacogdo-
ches to see the debris, but
there were no reports of any
falling in our area. The whole
thing is still mind-boggling and
depressing. Especially when
you let your mind wander
when trying to sleep. Much
has been written and said about
it and probably will be for a
long time to come. Let’s all
pray for all concerned.
EMAIL ... ours has been
all messed up. Still can’t ac-
cess one of them. But we have
another that’s up and working.
So sorry to inconvenience our
regular mailers.
TENAHA ... We have to
congratulate the Tenaha Tigers
that are headed for playoffs in
state. They have already pretty
much won district. We con-
gratulate them. Go, Tigers!

rescue group was organized at
McNeill & Brown Drug to go
and hunt for survi vors... at that
time not knowing the fate of
any.
A large crowd of volunteers
fanned out to search the area
with flashlights, blowing horns,
etc., trying to locate the young
airmen.
As the night wore on, all
members of the crew were
accounted for except the
young Corporal whose body
was not found until Sunday
morning. The only others who
are still around that took part
in the search I remember
was Buddy Harrison, Chuck
Roberson and myself. Did I
remember all of this? Of
couse not. Our friend, Larry
Parker McNeill was kind
enough to dig into from the
archives of the ETL in Aus-
tin, Texas. Continue to pray
for our service personnel and
the families of the space
crew. East Texas will always

that fell in the winter of 1948.
He also mentioned a memory
that was special, eating ice
cream at the drug stores and
listening to the stories of the
men sitting on the community
bench. These were some of
the greatest times, he said.
He remembered hearing
that the First State Bank of
Tenaha had failed and every
depositer was paid back by
the Motleys with borrowed
money and all of Tenaha de-
posited their money in
Farmer’s State Bank in Cen-

The Hero
I met a hero in town today,
He’s not who you would
guess.
He didn’t have the bulging
arms
Or medals on his chest.
His name is not recorded in
The history of our land,
But that doesn’t take away
from the greatness of this man
In a crowd you may not no-
tice this giant of a man. For
greatness isn’t measured in
the height that he stands.
What makes a man a hero is
not who he has defeated, but
knowing that in times of
trouble he never once re-
treated.
The hero is not always the
strongest. He doesn’t always
win the fight. But he’s the one
that always stands for what he
knows is right.
My hero is not a young man.
His body is worn and slim, but
in times when life is hardest I
want to be just like him.
