THE CELINA (TEXAS) RECORD
Announces for Re-Election
Congressman Sam Rayburn,
who represents the Fourth Texas
District in Congress, and is speak-
er of the House of Representa-
tives, has announced that he will
be a candidate for re-election in
the July 26 Democratic primary
election, and has authorized The
Record to place his name in its
political announcement column.
Mrs. Lee Ownsby went to Bart-

25 YEARS AGO IN GELINA
From The Record of June 16, 1927
In this old issue of The Record
there was carried a story about
a remarkable goose that be-
longed to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ma-
lone. It seemed the goose took a
prize in a poultry show and was
“spurred to gTeater afforte,”
mothering 18 goslings hatched
by a hen, while ccmtfiming to
lay.
Mrs. Ben ownsby had just en-
tertained the Inter Se Club. On
the program was a series of
dances by Little Misses Mary El-
len Thurman, Ann Tate and
Charlsie Ownsby.
Big news was the purchase of
a combine by a Plano man.
Wonder of wonders, the new ma-
chine was claimed to cut and
thresh the grain at the same
time.
W. N. Jackson, chairman, and
J. Edgar Ousley, secretary of
the executive committee to pre-
pare for a union revival meeting,
had an article in the paper,
telling folks about appointment
of committees, et cetera.
Rev. W. J. Epting had that
week preached the funeral of
T. A. Vaughan, who died June
12, 1927.
In the court news, no suits
for divorce had been filed. In
contrast, ten marriage licenses
had been issued during the week.
The city council, then as now,
was asking through The Record
that the citizenry refrain from
permitting their chickens to nan
at large.
